SWTOR Player Housing Features

It’s exactly what many players have been waiting for – a personal, customizable space they can call their own on TOR. These strongholds will be apartment-like complexes located on various planets that players can decorate with items from around the galaxy.

Official Features

Player housing (officially called Strongholds) was first teased at a Community Cantina on March 6th, 2014, with a simple video of a character walking in a Coruscant apartment with the tag line “Welcome home.” Since then. Bioware released a list of upcoming features and an walk around video on March 19th, 2014. This is what we know for sure. Some more info was released April 23rd with a letter from the developers.

Customize Your Strongholds

Display trophies earned in battle, craft state-of-the-art furniture, and unlock all-new rewards across the game. Then customize your Strongholds with hundreds of unique decorations to express your personal style.

You will earn a set of starter decorations when you purchase your first Stronghold. Many decorations will be available on existing vendors throughout the game as new rewards for Reputations, PvP, Crew Skills, and more. While some of these decorations will be available for credits and other currencies, many will require components created by crafters. Decorations can also be obtained as loot drops from Flashpoints and Operations. Finally, a variety of unique decorations can be purchased with Cartel Coins on the Cartel Market.

Live on Multiple Planets

Choose a prestigious apartment in the heart of your faction’s capital world (Coruscant for the Republic, Dromund Kaas for the Empire), or live in style among the high-rollers of Nar Shaddaa or both – your Legacy can own multiple Strongholds!

Invite Your Friends

Show off your latest collection to friends as you take a moment to relax before your next big adventure. Strongholds will likely be instanced.

Gain Prestige

Increase your character’s “Prestige Score” each time you add a decoration to your Stronghold – earn top ranking on the public Stronghold Directory and make a name for yourself among the galaxy’s elite.

Legacy Stronghold Storage

Unlock access to a new type of storage that is shared across your entire Legacy! Legacy refers to all characters on the same account, so presumably this Legacy Storage will be a shared bank that can be accessed by your characters on both factions.

Pets, Mount and Speeder Displays

Show off your speeder and pet collection in your stronghold, from your beautiful Varactyl to your tiny Taunlet pet! It is unknown how many of these you can display at a time.

Speculative Features

Although we can never truly know what will be available until launch, we can always guess what might be accessible based on the SWTOR Dev Team’s past releases, current content, press releases, dev posts, screenshots and other media. Here’s what we’ve seen.

Legacy Bank Function

Although the Legacy Bank has been confirmed by Bioware, we don’t yet know exactly how it will function. In the best case scenario it will be exactly like our current banks, but accessible from all our characters. Whether this is a feature that can be accessed outside of player housing is yet to be seen. This feature could bring a major boost to crafting efficiency – you no longer need to shift between characters just to try and find which one has your crafting materials.

Bank

Seen in the official announcement video in the background, it would very likely be the same as a normal single-character bank.

Guild Bank

Seen in the official announcement video in the background, it would very likely be the same as a normal guild bank.

Mailbox

Seen even in the initial teaser video, the mailbox would very likely be used to send mail like a normal mailbox.

GSI

Shown far off to the side of the initial teaser trailer, there have been rumblings that reputation will play a part in player housing.

Wishlist Features

From wacky to practical, the SWTOR community has never been shy to share their ideas about what should be in upcoming content. Here are some of the best, worst and most interesting ideas seen on the various SWTOR communication sites and forums.

GTN, Modification Station, Vendor

Let us be the ultimate homebody if we really want to and make sure we never have to leave our stronghold to do menial tasks.

Garage

Every want to see all your mounts in one spot? A line of Aratech speeders, or all your Varactyl’s coralled together? One thing on our wishlist is definitely a place to see them all in one spot – but we know for sure we will be able to display at least some of our speeders in our homes. [Source]

Pet Playground

Mini astromechs, tiny Karagga’s droids with hats, Gannifari’s and Lobelots live in our hearts always, but only one can be out at a time beside us. It would be great to see them all together in our house. We know that  we will be able to display at least some of our pets now. [Source]

Minigames

A Pazaak table! A Swoop-bike simulator! What better place for minigames to be hosted than player housing? [Source]

Boss Trophies

We already know that some decorations will come from Operations. But wouldn’t it be cool to have a piece of the boss you just fought hanging in your living room, just like Calo Nord in KOTOR I? Many other games with housing have this feature, and it will very likely be in SWTOR as well! [Source]

Types of Strongholds

We already know we can choose what planet our stronghold will be in. But will we be able to customize the type of stronghold it will be? Will all strongholds simply look like penthouse suites, or could I customize mine into a bar, an academy, a meditation room? [Source]
