Dark vs Light Bosses Guide

Dark vs Light bosses are extremely strong world bosses that you are expected to fight with an organized group of 8 to 16 people. Updated for Week 10!

UPDATE: Dark vs Light tokens are now legacy-bound! You’ll need to log in to each of your characters to combine your tokens together.

Quick Info

  • Only 2 bosses are available each week and are attached to Galactic Seasons.
  • Bosses respawn every 7 minutes.
  • See the maps below for boss locations.
  • Bosses require larger groups to fight, they are not for solo players.
  • Tactics – stay out of the bad stuff and run away if bad stuff is on the ground. The lag makes doing the mechanics properly almost impossible.
  • You do not need to be in a group to get credit for fighting them alongside a group, as long as you are on the same faction as the group that is fighting and hit the boss at least once. If the group is Republic and you’re Empire, you won’t get any loot or credit.
  • If you die, you will still get credit, so “stay dead” rather than returning to medcenter unless your group leader instructs you otherwise.
  • In larger groups, not everyone might receive a Dark or Light token.
  • Larger groups will be VERY laggy.
  • There are achievements!

Rewards

These special bosses drop a special reward – Light-side bosses (Jedi will always drop Dark Side Tokens, and Dark-side bosses (Sith) will always drop Light Side Tokens. It does not matter where you fight them or what faction you are on. These tokens can be turned in for some really cool, unique rewards including glowing armor and weapons, and a dark and light armor set you can’t get anywhere else. The tokens are legacy-bound and can be found i nthe currency tab of your inventory.

You can get Light Side Tokens from the Dark Side bosses.

You can get Dark Side Tokens from the Light Side bosses.

You can spend your Dark Side and Light Side tokens at the Dark and Light vendors in the Supplies section of the Republic or Imperial Fleet. There is a different vendor for Dark and Light token rewards. Many of the rewards require both a Dark or Light side rank (seen in your Character Sheet) and tokens from the Dark vs Light bosses. Galactic Seasons

The Dark vs Light bosses are tied in to the Galactic Seasons system for the Season 7 Objectives. Each week 2 different bosses are featured an objective.

The objective is once-per-week-per-legacy, so you can only do it once, but it gives you a bonus reward of an extra Dark and Light token to the character you complete it on.

Dark vs Light Boss Locations & List

The Dark vs Light world bosses can spawn on Hoth, Tatooine, Dromund Kaas, Coruscant, or Alderaan in specific locations on each planet. Only a few of the bosses are available each week, corresponding with what bosses are featured in the Galactic Seasons, Season 7 Objectives for the week.

Preeda the Butcher

BUG: It seems Preeda the Butcher on Tatooine, the Dark vs Light boss is a bit buggy but available. I have heard some groups have luck pulling the boss off the rocks or being on higher ground than her. In my group she kept evading and we decided to skip it and hope they fix it.

  • Boss Name: Preeda the Butcher
  • Planet: Tatooine

  • Galactic Season Objective: Week 5 – Ancient Enemies V / Week 15?

  • Actual Location: The Dark vs Light boss Thundering Bozwed (what a name) is located in south Justicar Territory on Coruscant. Republic-only, the quick travel is quite far up Black Sun Sector. The medcenter you return to when you die is not too far, but since he is an easier boss, be careful reviving. He also has a habit of picking fights with nearby NPC enemies, so satay FAR away from him until you are ready to start.

Yezzil the Raging Storm

  • Boss Name: Yezzil the Raging Storm
  • Planet: Hoth
  • Mechanics: Ranged

  • Coordinates: -908, 142?
  • Actual Location: Aloeek the Voracious the Dark vs Light World Boss is located on Dromund Kaas and is for Imperial characters only. He’s kind of a pain to get to, and if you die the medcenter is a far run with two very slow elevators. I think the closest quicktravel is Outpost Warden.

Chanta the Unforgiving

  • Boss Name: Chanta the Unforgiving
  • Planet: Hoth
  • Mechanics: Melee
  • Token Reward: Dark Token

  • Coordinates: -1799, 101?
  • Actual Location: Jaadel the Vindicator the Dark vs Light boss is located on Alderaan kinda near Castle Panteer. It is a long run for Republic players from the medcenter. He’s a little buggy and may fall through the hill but not too bad.

Jinatte the Merciless

  • Boss Name: Jinatte the Merciless
  • Planet: Tatooine

  • Actual Location: Overseer Qezzed the Light vs Dark world boss is located in Justicar Territory on Coruscant (Republic only). Closest quicktravel is Justicar Sector and a long run. There is a medcenter very close if you die BUT the boss is weaker so be careful respawning as he dies quickly

Warden Nymessa

  • Boss Name: Warden Nymessa
  • Planet: Hoth
  • Mechanics: Melee
  • Token Reward: Light Token
  • Galactic Season Objective: Week 9 – Ancient Enemies IX / Week 18?
  • Coordinates: -1148, 1265?
  • Actual Location: Terrible screenshot, but, Warden Nymessa the Dark vs Light boss is on the long map of Hoth. She’s much closer to get to Imperial-side, near Leth Outpost, otherwise for Republic side you need to go to Highmount Road and run south, or Outpost Senth and run far south.

Dark vs Light Boss Mechanics

There are essentially two types of Dark vs Light boss mechanic patterns that you need to know about before running these bosses.

Ranged: Purple/Orange Conal and Blue Circles

These bosses use Ranged tactics:

  • Keeper Anais (Tatooine)
  • Justice Orzmod (Dromund Kaas)
  • Tulo the Fearless (Coruscant)
  • Guardian Silaraz (Alderaan)
  • Jinatte the Merciless (Tatooine)
  • Yezzil the Raging Storm (Hoth)
  • Aloeek the Voracious (Dromund Kaas)
  • Overseer Qezzed (Coruscant)
  • Tormentor Urdig (Alderaan)
  • Defender Gilada (Hoth)

Force Execution

3 second cast

Sometimes known as the ‘Darth Raptus’ purple double-conal attack, this is an attack that “follows” the tank the boss is currently on as they move, and does damage both in front of and behind the boss, with more damage going out in the small patch directly in front of and behind the boss.

The tank wants to keep the boss facing roughly the same direction, but should back out of the larger purple patch near the boss so they aren’t in the bigger danger zone – and all other players should simply stay out of the purple conal altogether.

This giant conal may also appear orange, depending on the boss, but it works the same.

If you happen to get a big orange circle without the line attached to it, run away from the group if you can.

Blue Circles and Stun

This deadly mechanic is something all players in your group will need to deal with or they’ll all die. Ranged players should stay as far away from the boss as possible while fighting, and also stay away from each other as much as possible.

The boss will cast a 6-second channel called Master Stasis or Force Choke which will stun up to 6 players.

The boss will randomly pick up to 8 players and put red circles on their feet that will follow them as they move. Players who get a red circle have only 2 seconds to move the red circle to a different location, ideally away from the boss and not overlapping with another player – in general, they should just run away if possible.

After 2 seconds, the red circles will turn blue and stop following the player, and stay more permanently on the ground whereever the player was when the 2-second timer ran out. These dangerous circles will have blue lightning in them for about ten seconds that really hurts. So ideally, players who get the red circles will be continuously moving away, that way, when the red circle turns blue they don’t accidentally get caught in the lightning patch. All other players should do their best to avoid the players with red circles, stay out of their path, and as usual stay out of the nasty lightning patches on the ground. Stunned players will die to this if they aren’t ready to immediately un-stun themselves and start running away.

The players who are stunned sho uld NOT use their various movement-breaking abilities to get out of the stun, UNLESS they are in imminent danger of being in a circle, otherwise they won’t have their stunbreaker available for when they really need it. Players who are stunned will know they are stunned if they can’t move or look for the pink Stunned debuff on their debuffs list. All players need to be ready to un-stun themselves and be ready to move immediately after, as there will likely be nasty stuff on the ground showing up under their feet.

These circles can be very hard to see on some planets.

Move Faster Abilities

These are a few abilities that allow your character to move faster to quickly get away with the red-turning-blue circles.

  • Force Speed
  • Phase Walk (be ready to move)
  • Blade Blitz / Mad Dash (aim yourself carefully)
  • Scamper / Exfiltrate (double roll is awesome, aim yourself carefully)
  • Hightail It (aim carefully, careful to move at the end)
  • Propulsion Round / Rocket Out (aim your butt)
  • Hydraulic Overrides / Hold the Line

Stunbreaker Abilities

All Combat Styles have a stunbreaker, that allows them to move after they are stunned. Here are some of them. Make sure to save your stun for when you are actively in something bad!

  • Determination – Mercenary / Powertech
  • Escape – Operative / Sniper
  • Unbreakable Will – Assassin / Sorcerer
  • Force Shroud – Assassin
  • Unleash – Marauder / Juggernaut
  • Tenacity – Commando / Vanguard
  • Escape – Scoundrel / Gunslinger
  • Force of Will – Shadow / Sage
  • Resilience – Shadow
  • Resolute – Sentinel / Guardian

Melee: Pink Agony Circles and Cleanse

These bosses use melee tactics:

  • Erdi the Relentless (Coruscant)
  • Gorso the Nightmare King (Alderaan)
  • Cortella the Righteous (Dromund Kaas)
  • Preeda the Butcher (Tatooine)
  • Jaadel the Vindicator (Alderaan)
  • Thundering Bozwed (Coruscant)
  • Chanta the Unforgiving (Hoth)
  • Warden Nymessa (Hoth)
  • Malussa the Gleaming Star (Tatooine)

Agony Trail

Agony very short 1-second cast followed by a large group-wide Force Push away from the boss.

It chooses a player randomly, and as they move they leave a large trail of red circles on their feet, sometimes known as  ‘Trail of Agony’ red – pink circles.

The player that got Agony needs to run away from the group, keep moving, and no ones should stand in the trail of red circles. The player running will be slowed down, so they have to be ready to go the second the cast starts and everyone else needs to get out of their way. While I am tanking the boss, I like to stay a few steps away and ready to run when I see agony, rather than being directly on top of the boss. The dropping of this trail will last about 10 seconds, and drop a trail of about 10 red circles. Don’t run backward, only sideways or turn around and run forwards, or you won’t be fast enough to get out of the trail, and it hurts to stand in it.

The tank on the boss should try and keep the boss relatively still for the group, while staying out of anything on the ground like any accidental pink circles.

These circles can be very hard to see on some planets.

Stun

The boss will cast a 6-second channel called Master Stasis or Force Choke which will stun up to 6 players.  All players need to be ready to unstun themselves and be ready to move if there is anything bad on the ground under them. These players should use their various movement-breaking abilities to get out of the stun if they are in danger, and will know they are stunned if they can’t move or look for the pink Stunned debuff on their debuffs list.

Cleanse

Players will randomly receive a cleanseable debuff called:

Deafening Shout (green man with a headache).

They need to cleanse themselves or be cleansed by the healers as soon as possible, because the damage really hurts, and they will die quickly if they are not cleansed. You likely will not have enough healers to cleanse all six random people who get the debuff, so your group members will need to be aware of their own cleanses. Healers and players who can cleanse themselves should look for the icon of a ‘green man with lime green headache with a white border’.

The fight always starts with this stun-and-cleanse mechanic.

Cleanse Abilities

Cleansing is an incredibly important skill in this fight, so make sure to know if you have a cleanse or if you will need to rely on a healer. I highly recommend to key-bind your cleanse even if you have never keybound an ability before.

  • Cure – Mercenary
  • Toxic Scan – Operative
  • Force Shroud – Assassin (self only)
  • Expunge – Sorcerer
  • Field Aid – Commando
  • Triage – Scoundrel
  • Resilience – Shadow (self only)
  • Restoration – Sage

Stunbreaker Abilities

All Combat Styles have a stunbreaker, that allows them to move after they are stunned. Here are some of them.

  • Determination – Mercenary / Powertech
  • Escape – Operative / Sniper
  • Unbreakable Will – Assassin / Sorcerer
  • Force Shroud – Assassin
  • Unleash – Marauder / Juggernaut
  • Tenacity – Commando / Vanguard
  • Escape – Scoundrel / Gunslinger
  • Force of Will – Shadow / Sage

  • Resolute – Sentinel / Guardian

Old System

This is a different system than the Dark vs Light system, but it has he same rewards and bosses as the Dark vs Light system, which used to be a server-wide ongoing thing from a previous update. This is completely different than the Dark vs Light Event, which only has a similar name, and was a limited-time event in the summer of 2016.
