Biochem Crafting Materials Guide

Biochem is quite different than any other crafting crew skill as all its crafting materials are not used by any other crafting skill. This guide will go through all the ways to get materials for Biochem in Star Wars: The Old Republic, and a list of every Biochem crafting material and how to get it.

SWTOR Biochem Crafting Guide

If you’re looking for a specific material, use CTRL+F on your keyboard to search for it, or click its icon below.

Materials Bay

An important thing to know about all crafting materials is that they don’t go in to your inventory most of the time – instead they automatically go in to a special type of bank called your Materials Bay.

To open your Materials Bay, click the symbol of a diamond on the top left of your inventory.

This Materials Bay is shared by all your characters on your server and anything you craft will automatically pull from your Materials Bay supply. You may have even already earned some Biochem crafting materials while you were playing that went straight to your crafting bay!

Crew Skill Missions

You can send your companions out to gather materials for you. Once you have picked up the Bioanalysis and Diplomacy crew skills, you can open the crafting panel with the B key on your keyboard.

Your companion’s influence level affects a lot of the crafting activities, and you can see your companion’s influence in the circles on the right. A companion with a high influence level can craft and gather faster, have a chance of crafting double items or an augmented items, and a better chance of succeeding and bringing back a better reward from gathering missions. To learn more about raising your companion’s influence, check out my Companion Gift Guide video.

 Bioanalysis

Bioanalysis will provide you with the Biochemical Samples and Biochemical Compounds you need for Biochem crafting.

Biochemical Samples
Dielectric Cell Fiber material, from Patch Microscopic Symbiote material, from Patch Bio-Energy Cell Sample material, from Patch Alien Bacteria material, from Patch Parasitic Microorganism material, from Patch Mutagenic Paste material, from Patch Metabolic Enhancement Agent material, from Patch Anodyne Extract material, from Patch Fresh Red Goo material, from Patch Fresh Medicinal Fluid material, from Patch Premium Unknown Microorganism material, from Patch Prototype Unknown Microorganism material, from Patch Artifact Unknown Microorganism material, from Patch

Crew Skill Missions

If you open up your Bioanalysis missions by clicking the Bioanalysis icon on your crafting panel, you’ll notice that the missions tell you what they reward – in this case, your first two available missions reward Grade 1 Biochemical Sampless and Grade 1 Biochemical Compounds, which is exactly what the first schematic you need to craft as a Biochem requires. Bioanalysis missions can also get you the white-bordered Flux for cheaper than you can get it from the Crew Skills Vendor.

You can send your Companions out to gather by double-clicking the gathering mission.

More missions will unlock as you level up your Bioanalysis skill by sending your companions out on missions or by gathering materials in the open world. Here are the levels at which the next Grade of materials are unlocked…

  • Grade 1 Materials: Bioanalysis level 1
  • Grade 2 Materials: Bioanalysis level 80
  • Grade 3 Materials: Bioanalysis level 160
  • Grade 4 Materials: Bioanalysis level 240
  • Grade 5 Materials: Bioanalysis level 300
  • Grade 6 Materials: Bioanalysis level 350
  • Grade 7 Materials: Bioanalysis level 400
  • Grade 8 Materials: Bioanalysis level 450
  • Grade 9 Materials: Bioanalysis level 500
  • Grade 10 Materials: Bioanalysis level 550
  • Grade 11 Materials: Bioanalysis level 600

Open World

In addition to getting crafting materials from sending your companions out on crew skill missions, with Bioanalysis, you’ll also be able to pick up discarded piles of metal scrap you find on the ground in the open world by right clicking them. The closer your Bioanalysis level is to the recommended level of the material, the more materials you will get, so you can gather higher-level materials, but you won’t get very many if you have a low Bioanalysis level.

How to Scavenge

You can spot materials in the open world by looking for the star symbol on your mini map, or the star symbol in a small radius around your large map, or watching out for colorful crystal formations and archaeological artifacts with blue glowing text near them. You can right click these to send your companion to go get them, and you can even gather a different node by right clicking it and gather it yourself as your companion gathers a different one. If you can’t see the yellow star shapes on your map, you may need to open your map with the M key and check the “Resource” checkbox on the bottom left.

Not all items can be gathered from the open world. Your second related gathering skill, Diplomacy, will only allow you to gather materials by sending your companions out on missions – you’ll never find Diplomacy materials out in the open world.

Bioanalysis Planets

SWTOR Crafting Materials Gathering Guide (by all planets and material grades)

Here is an easy list of worlds where you can find Biochemical Samples and Biochemical Compound materials to gather for free. This is a quick summary of Kel Gryphon’s in-depth guide with videos which you can see here.

  • Grade 1 Bioanalysis Materials: Ord Mantell (Republic – Savrip Island, kill  Silver and Gold level Savrips), Coruscant (Republic – The Works), Hutta (Empire – around Evocii Work Camp neutral beasts, or on the island
to the East of the Old Muckworks), Korrban (Empire – Wilds and go East fight Tuk’ata) Dromund Kaas (Empire – heroic area, take out the beasts, then take the road North.
The road between Lord Grathan’s Estate and Kaas City is full of materials.)
  • Grade 2 Bioanalysis Materials: Nar Shaddaa (Nikto Sector and Red Light District – also has Grade 3), Taris (Republic – Brejik’s Run) and Balmorra (Empire – Sundari flatlands)

 Diplomacy

Diplomacy is where you get the Research Compounds needed for Biochem. Diplomacy crew skill missions work almost the same way as Bioanalysis missions – the only difference is that you can not find Diplomacy materials out in the open world. More Diplomacy missions will unlock as you level up your Diplomacy skill by sending your companions out on missions.

Medical Suppliess
Biochemical Bonding Agent material, from Patch Alien Blood Sample material, from Patch Molecular Programmer material, from Patch Mechanical Symbiote material, from Patch Neuro-Stimulator material, from Patch Bioelectric Toxin material, from Patch Synthetic Blood material, from Patch Miracle Fluid material, from Patch Experimental Serum material, from Patch Iridescent Goo material, from Patch Smart Cells material, from Patch Radioactive Paste material, from Patch Medical Grade Injector material, from Patch Sterilization Kit material, from Patch Hemostatic Gel material, from Patch Autoimmune Regulator material, from Patch Hydroventilator material, from Patch Delta Wave Inducer material, from Patch Hypodermic Injector material, from Patch Synaptic Accelerator material, from Patch

Heads up, Diplomacy can get you different rewards, so if you only want Biochem materials, don’t send your companions out on the Companion Gifts missions. Here are the levels at which the next Grade of materials are unlocked…

  • Grade 1 Medical Supplies: Diplomacy level 1
  • Grade 2 Medical Supplies: Diplomacy level 80
  • Grade 3 Medical Supplies: Diplomacy level 160

  • Grade 11 Medical Supplies: Diplomacy level 600

Crew Skills Vendor – White-bordered Materials

White-bordered materials are a bit different – you can either send your companions to gather them if you have a mission available for them from Bioanalysis, or buy them directly from a vendor called the Crew Skills Trade Vendor in the Strongholds & Crew Skills section of the fleet who sells them pretty cheap.

Medical Equipments
Hypo-syringe material, from Patch First Aid Kit material, from Patch Hemosponge material, from Patch Hypnogazer material, from Patch Memory-plastic material, from Patch Myostim material, from Patch Stim Plug material, from Patch Nervesplicer material, from Patch Vapro-sampler material, from Patch Mediscan Unit material, from Patch Premium Recombinator material, from Patch Prototype Recombinator material, from Patch Standard Recombinator material, from Patch

GTN

Crafting Materials can also be bought and sold on the GTN.

Buying Materials: To buy materials from other players, you can go to the Fleet, and go to the Galactic Trade Market section of the map. Once there, right click the big green terminal, and then click in the search box. If you’re looking for a specific material, and aren’t having luck with your crew skill missions, or want to get ahold of the materials quicker, you can type the name of the crafting material in to the GTN, click search, then sort by price per unit lowest to highest. Even better, if you have the schematic window also open, click in to the search box, and SHIFT+LEFT CLICK on the material to automatically put the name of the material in to the GTN search box.

Selling Materials: If you want to make some easy credits, you can sell any materials you aren’t using on the GTN to other players who are crafting – just remember to set the sell price to the number of materials you are selling times the price you want to sell them each at. To take crafting materials out of your Materials Bay to sell, open your Materials bay, and right-click the item. To split a pile of materials or any other item, SHIFT+RIGHT CLICK the pile and type in how many you want to separate out. For normal crafting materials, like what you get from Bioanalysis, players usually want to buy them in piles, rather than 1 by 1.

Jawa Junk

Jawa Scraps are a type of currency that you can turn in for crafting materials. There are three types of this currency, green, which is called Scavenged Scrap, blue, which is called Assorted Droid parts, and purple, which is called Jawa Junk, which is also what players often call this type of currency. Jawa Scraps can come from many sources, but the most common is by completing your Conquest goal for the week. Almost all crafting materials can be bought with Jawa Scrap, and each type of material costs different amounts.

To spend your Jawa scrap, head to the Fleet, and go to the Cartel Bazaar, which is the northern elevator Republic side and the Southern elevator Imperial side. There you’ll find a group of Jawa vendors who will sell you materials for scrap. Turning scrap in to materials and then selling the materials is also a great easy way to make credits.

All green, blue, and purple Bioanalysis and Diplomacy materials Grades 1 – 11 are available from the Jawas at varying prices. Be warned – the Grade 11 materials are very expensive.

Conquest Decorations

You can also get a special type of decoration from Conquest that is like an open world gathering node – but you can place it down in your stronghold and you can gather from a few of them every four hours or so. Some of these decorations reward specific materials, while others can give you a variety of materials in a certain gathering skill. All conquest crafting decorations can be bought and sold on the GTN.

Biochem can gather Bioanalysis materials Grades 1 – 7 from Conquest Decorations. Scavenging and Archaeology conquest decorations go up to Grade 8 but Biochem does not.

Other Ways

As you play you’ll also get random crafting materials along the way. Finding blue crates hidden on almost every planet will often give you a random set of materials, and crafting bags that also have random materials can be found in the Daily Login rewards, dropped from Flashpoint Bosses, and a reward for completing Conquest.
