When crafting with any crew skill in Star Wars: The Old Republic, you’ll come acros crafting schematics that take white-bordered materials to make. Unlike most other materials, these white-bordered materials can be purchased directly from a vendor, rather than gathered or bought from other players. These materials are available from the Crew Skill Trade Vendor in the Strongholds & Crew Skills section of the Republic or Imperial fleet.

You can also gather these materials using Scavenging, Archaeology, and Bioanalysis. Players often gather these materials to sell on the GTN, or, buy them from the vendor and re-sell them on the GTN for marked up prices to players who don’t know better, so never buy these white-bordered materials on the GTN unless you happen to see a good deal.
