Ancient Sith Lords of SWTOR

The lore of The Old Republic spans across more than just the Star Wars: The Old Republic and Knights of the Old Republic games – its lore has also been developed over the years by various authors in both books and comics. In this video, we’ll be taking an indepth look at some of the Ancient Sith  Lords who influenced Star Wars lore, and who have had their distinctive armor sets added to Star Wars: The Old Republic. You may have even run into some of these Dark Lord’s tombs on Korriban, or seen their spirits roaming the caves and forests of Yavin 4.

Ajunta Pall’s Armor Set

Who was Ajunta Paul? After discovering the secret of creating and shaping life thousands of years before Star Wars: The Old Republic‘s timeline, Ajunta Pall was labelled a pawn of the darkside by the Jedi Order. In anger, Ajunta Pall declared war on the Jedi Order, and created the conflict known as the “Hundred-Year Darkness”. After ten decades of fighting, Ajunta Pall and his dark followers, including Xoxaan, Karness Murr, and Remulus Dreypa, were defeated, and exiled. In their search for a new home, the exiles discovered Korriban, and the force-sensitive red-skinned Sith. There, Ajunta Pall became the first Lord of the Sith, and founded the Sith Empire. During the expansion of the Sith Empire, they found the planet of Ziost, and chose it to be the capital of the Sith Empire.

(After his death hundreds of years later, Ajunta Pall’s body was returned to Korriban’s tombs, where his spirit would be found thousands of years later by Revan in Knights of the Old Republic. Imperial players can also visit Ajunta Pall’s tomb on Korriban.)

About Ajunta Pall’s Armor in SWTOR: Pieces of Ajunta Pall’s Armor Set can be obtained from the Star Cluster Nightlife Pack as  random chance drop, and are buyable on the GTN from other players. You can buy the full set as an item called “Ajunta Pall’s Armor Set”, or buy the individual items listed below. The mask is usually the most expensive piece of Ajunta Pall’s armor, due to it being one of the very few masks that covers the lower half of the face without being bulky. His armor is not the close-fitting armor you see in Knights of the Old Republic – it is based on his armor from his younger years on Ziost, from the book Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force. If you collect and equip all the pieces below, you will then have Ajunta Pall’s armor permanently unlocked in your character’s collections, and be able to pay cartel coins to unlock it for your entire account. You can pay Cartel Coins to unlock for all characters in Collections.

XoXaan’s Armor Set

About XoXaan: One of the followers of Ajunta Pall who wanted to explore the dark side of the force, XoXaan was a pale-skinned humanoid who was exiled from the Republic after the Hundred Years of Darkness where she fought alongside Karness Muur and Remulus Dreypa. She and Ajunta Pall’s fallen Jedi were the foudners of Korriban, and she was christened as the first of the Sith Lords. Though other Sith Lords possessed similar talents, XoXaan was noted amongst her peers for her skills in dark side healing, which was passed on via a holocron which was hidden in her tomb in the Valley of the Dark Lords.

Pieces of the XoXaan’s Armor Set can be obtained from Star Cluster’s Nightlife Pack, and are buyable on the GTN from other players. Remulus Drepya’s Armor Set

Remulus Dreypa was a Jedi Admiral who also fell to the dark side during the Hundred-Year Darkness, and followed the other exiled dark Jedi to Korriban and became an admiral of the Dark Jedi fleet. Dreypa played an important role in the developement of the Sith Order and Sith Philosophy – he believed that a true Sith should only live for themselves and that caring for others made one a slave of other individuals. During time life among the Sith, Dreypa also created oubliettes which would cause a being inside it to endure a living death. He was also a Master at Force Lightnimg. Some years later, having increased their dark powers and strengthened their dominion over the Sith, Dreypa and some of his fellow exiles decided that it was time to take their revenge on the Jedi Order and their weak Republic. They then assembled a strike force, gathering their new armies and their twisted Sith beasts.

However, Dreypa and his forces came across a Jedi patrol, and after a pursuit across the galaxy, the Jedi and Sith ships crash landed on Kesh, where the space battle became a tremendous clash of lightsabers and Force powers. Dreypa and his Jedi adversaries fought with an unparalleled ferocity, devastating the planet by using all the weapons at their disposal including twisted Leviathan monsters.

Horrified by the extent of the damage and the destructive impact of the conflict on Kesh and its inhabitants, his own Dark Jedi allies turned against him. In the end they sealed the Sith Lord in his own living death oubliette and formed a truce with their former Jedi opponents.

Karness Muur’s Armor Set

Karness Muur was once a respected Knight of the Jedi Order, but his lust for power caused him to fall to the dark side and be exiled along with the other followers of Ajunta Pall. Karness Muur also possessed his own personal Sith amulet, one imbued with tremendous dark side power, should the wielder have the strength to dominate it. Crafted by his fellow exile, Sorzus Syn, the Muur’s talisman afforded Muur the power to transform those in his close proximity into mindless thralls for him to command. When the Talisman was found not to work on Force-sensitives or certain alien species, Muur further engineered the Rakghoul plague.

Pieces of Karness Muur’s Armor Set can be obtained from the Club Vertica Nightlife Pack, and are buyable on the GTN from other players. You can buy the full set as an item called “Karness Muur’s Armor Set”, or buy the individual items listed below. Tulak Hord’s Armor Set

Of the four Sith spirits that roam Yavin 4 in Star Wars: The Old Republic, Tulak Hord is the one who ties the most in to The Old Republic’ history, and the one we know the least about. Tulak Hord was Dark Lord of the Sith that ruled during the early Sith Empire, but started off as a student of the darks side. Rising through the ranks, he was feared by his rivals, having mastered the art of lightsaber combat and manipulation of the Force. During his early years, Hord fought an honorable duel against a Dashade named Khem Val, who later became his most faithful ally, and this Dashade assassin would go on to become an ally of the Sith Inquisitor in Star Wars: The Old Republic. During Tulak Hord’s planetary conquests, the Sith Lord was approached by a Sith name Kallig, who challenged Tulak Hord’s best general to a duel, and won. After Kallig’s victory, Tulak Hord invited him to join his dark forces. While Kallig’s military prowess gained Hord enormous success, it also intimidated the Dark Lord, who feared that Kallig could become a very dangerous rival. He decided to deal with the situation by having Kallig assassinated. It is rumored, however, that Tulak Hord was not so successful at killing his rival as he would have liked – and that the strange events in the Dark Temple on Dromund Kaas in Star Wars: The Old Republic have Kallig at their center. Tulak Hord was known as the Lord of Hate, Master of the Gathering Darkness, and finally, Dark Lord of the Sith, Lord Hord went undefeated, slaying all who dared to challenge his might. He was a renowned duelist, remarkable even for his time, when many true lightsaber masters lived, and was extremely talented in both laying single-handed seige and in the telekentic powers of the Force.

Pieces of Tulak Hord’s Armor Set can be obtained from the Star Cluster Nightlife Pack, and are buyable on the GTN from other players. You can buy the full set as an item called “Tulak Hord’s Armor Set”, or buy the individual items listed below. Marka Ragnos’s Armor Set

Who is Marka Ragnos? A sith-human hybrid, Marka Ragnos was a descendant of the exiled Dark Jedi led by Naga Sadow Ajunta Pall during the Hundred-Year Darkness. A formidable warrior, he ruthlessly rose to become the Dark Lord of the Sith. Years later, he met a young boy named Tenebrae, who hoped to train under Marka Ragnos. Impressed by the boy’s power and ambition, Marka Ragnos bestowed upon him the new name of Vitiate. During his funeral on Korriban, two Sith Lords, Naga Sadow and Ludo Kressh emerged as favorites to succeed Ragnos as the next Dark Lord of the Sith and the two engaged in a duel, with, Naga Sadow emerging victorious as the new Dark Lord of the Sith.

(In Knights of the Old Republic, Revan visits Marka Ragnos’s tomb on Korriban during his search for the Star Forge. In Star Wars: The Old Republic, you can also visit his tomb on Korriban, and Marka Ragnos’s spirit can be found roaming Yavin 4.)

Naga Sadow’s Armor Set

Who is Naga Sadow? Born on Ziost from the Dark Jedi Exiles and Pureblood Siths that Ajunta Pall had united thousands of years before, Naga Sadow had intentions to seize the throne after Marka Ragno’s death – but he was faced with both a rival, and an interesting surprise – a starship with unknown origins containing Republic fugitives named Gav and Jori Daragon, siblings who would be the key to Naga Sadow’s key to new conquests.

After orchestrating a perfect plan staged around these captured siblings, and defeating his rival Ludo Kressh,  Naga Sadow was able to become the undisputed Lord of the Sith. His victories in hand, he set out to dominate the Republic with a fleet augmented by illusions powered by Sith Magic, igniting a conflict called the Great Hyperspace War.

Unfortunately for Sadow, both his Sith Meditation Sphere and his fakery with illusions were discovered and disrupted, turning the tide of the war in the Republic’s favor. After the war, the Republic hunted down the remaining Sith strongholds, and many Sith were exiled to remote planets.

In the aftermath, Naga Sadow and his remaining Massassi Warriors fled to Yavin 4, where he continued his studies of Sith alchemy, learning how to assert his will on the natural order of the universe,  experimenting on his Massassi slaves, twisting and mutating them into powerful beings filled with violence and hate.

After decades of practicing his Sith alchemy undisturbed, Sadow placed himself in a suspended animation chamber that would keep his body alive for centuries, until a new apprentice had risen to bring about a Sith golden age. Hundreds of years later, he was discovered and awakened by a curious Jedi named Freedon Nadd, who had stumbled upon Yavin 4 during his quest to learn more of the dark side. Believing that Nadd was the apprentice for whom he had been waiting for centuries, Sadow taught Freedon Nadd his Sith secrets, only for his newfound apprentice to eventually turn on and kill him.

(Naga Sadow’s spirit, and his twisted Massasssi Wariors, can be found on Yavin 4 in Star Wars: The Old Republic as part of the Shadow of Revan expansion.)

Freedon Nadd’s Armor Set

A bright, confident and knowledgeable young padawan on the planet of Ossus, Freedon Nadd was a promising young apprentice. Unfortunately for the Jedi and for the Galaxy, the Jedi Council denied the young man his Jedi Knighthood. This rejection caused him great despair, and he sought out his Master for advice…. but the advice he received was not the advice he wanted, when she advised him that he needed to figure out what was required for himself to become a Jedi Knight, and to learn from that experience. Freedon Nadd then vowed to become the greatest Jedi that ever lived, but his Master interrupted him with the ignition of her lightsaber, and issued a challenge for Nadd to prove to her that he deserved all the power he claimed. A fierce duel followed their words, ending in the Master’s death.

At first Nadd was overcome with grief for killing his own Master, but his thoughts soon turned back towards anger… anger at his Master for orchestrating her death at his hands, and anger at the Masters who had set up this test for him, and he fled the planet in a fit of rage, intending to find the revenge he craved by becoming a thrall of the dark side… and by becoming the most powerful Sith sorcerer in the galaxy.

His travels eventually led him to Yavin 4, where he roused Naga Sadow’s spirit from his centuries-long slumber. Naga Sadow realized that Nadd was a prime candidate for his dark legacy, and took the fallen Jedi as his Sith apprentice.  When Freedon Nadd believed that he had learned all that the Dark Lord had to offer, Nadd compiled the sum of his knowledge into a holocron, destroyed Sadow’s spirit, and declared himself the new Dark Lord of the Sith. With his new found power, Freedon Nadd searched for a world to conquer, and found the world of Onderan. Although his dynasty was cruel and oppressive, his teachings were widely accepted by the Onderonian people for over a century. Rumor of his tyranny eventually became the concern of the Jedi Order, and a team of Knights was sent to deal with the Sith Lord, and after a pitched battle, Freedon Nadd and his forces were defeated. Darkness permeated Onderon for centuries after Freedon Nadd’s death, and his tomb became a focal point of dark side energy, and Nadd’s spirit continued his legacy by training new darkside apprentices and bringing his descendants into the fold of the Dark Side.

In his quest to physically resurrect himself, Freedon Nadd took on his direct descedant Ommin, who had risen to King of Onderan in Nadd’s abscence, and his wife Amanoa the queen. Ultimately, Ommin failed him, and Nadd knew Amanoa would not continue without her husband. Hoping to bring her back to her studies of the dark side, he told her that she could not risk a civil war on Onderan… and misunderstanding, Queen Amanoa reached out the Jedi Order.

A Jedi peacekeeping team arrived led by Ulic Qel-Droma, and when negotiations failed, Amanoa called upon the power of Freedon Nadd to support her during the ensuing battle against the combined forces of the Jedi negotiations team and the Beast Riders, outcasts of Onderann who had learned to tame the wild beasts of the forests outside the city’s protection. Victory for her was nigh at hand, and Amanoa’s forces would have won if not for the arrival of a Jedi Master who turned the tides of the war.

The Jedi’s victory allowed them to purge the city of Freedon Nadd’s spirit… and as he withdrew, Queen Amanoa died in the arms of her daughter, no longer able to stay alive without the support of the dark spirit. After more trials, the torture of the Jedi Master, and the death of King Omin, the Jedi were finally able to cleanse Onderan of Freedon Nadd’s darkness, and he was sealed in a tomb on Dxun, Onderon’s moon. The Dark Lord would not rest in peace though, as an ambitious Jedi named Exar Kun would soon unearth his tomb in the search for Sith secrets.

Exar Kun’s Armor Set

Recognized as an extremely promising student, Exar Kun trained on Dantooine, where he harbored a deep desire to become a great Jedi Knight. In his quest for greatness, he found a holocron containing knowledge of an ancient fallen Jedi, Dark Lord of the Sith, named Freedon Nadd. His interest in the Sith growing, he decided to venture to Dxun to seek out the forbidden knowledge of the Dark Lord.

There he found the spirit of Freedon Nadd, and ancient scrolls that would lead him to the last home of the Sith – Korriban. In the great Temple of Korriban, Freedon Nadd found his chance to corrupt him – the spirit brought the temple down on Exar Kun, shattering his body, and promising that he could only be saved by surrendering to the dark side.

Made whole again, Kun rose feeling stronger than he ever had before, but also having lost his connection to the light side of the Force. Ulic Qel-Droma, the Jedi who had come to save Onderon, had now fallen to the darkside, and the spirit of Freedon Nadd declared him Kun’s first apprentice, and eventually his downfall.

Ulic Qel-Droma’s Armor Set

Before he fell to the darkside, Ulic Qel-Droma was the son of a famed Jedi Master from Alderaan. Feeling the need to prove his worth to the Alderaanian nobles, Ulic Qel-Droma threw himself entirely into his studies and became a skilled fighter with a natural talent with the Force, if a reckless fighter who often acted without thinking. As they grew, he, his brother Cay and his cousin Duron then studied under an Arcanian Jedi Master named Arca Jeth, who would be assigned to the planet of Oneron to seek the peaceful resolution of the Beast Wars that were occurring there. Worried that their Master was leaving them, the brothers were surprised to find they would be the ones to travel to Onderon.

Once arrived, Queen Amanoa was hesitant to work with such young Jedi. Qel-Droma quickly dismissed her concerns, promising that the whole of the Jedi Order would be at her service if she embraced the Galactic Republic. While attempting to protect the royal family, the brothers discovered a dark secret told to them by the young princess of Onderon…. the Onderon Royal Family were dark side users, Sith cultists who worshiped the dead Dark Lord of the Sith Freedon Nadd, who had subjugated the planet centuries before. She wished to lead an assult against the evil royal family, but Qel-Droma responded with a different idea—he, the other Jedi, would first and try to bring a peaceful end to the Beast Wars. If they failed, then there would be war. In the end, Queen Amanoa rebuffed his attempts at peace, and the Beast Wars were won through the valiant efforts of the young Jedi, the Beast Riders, and the well-timed arrival of their Master and his use of the powerful force technique known as battle meditation.

After the final battle, and the Nadd cultists were defeated, Qel-Droma and his brother decided to explore the dark artifacts left behind by the royal family. There they found an ancient Sith amulet that summoned the spirit of Freedon Nadd… and Ulic Qel-droma began his descent to the dark side.

Darth Andeddus’s Armor Set

Darth Andeddu, also referred to as the Immortal God-King of Prakith, was an ancient humanoid male who reigned as Dark Lord of the Sith, long after the exiled dark Jedi made their way to Korriban. Andeddu studied the ways of dark healing recorded by Karness Muur, and corrupted them further, and sought ways to cheat death entirely. He was ultimately successful. Andeddu believed that his subordinate Sith Lords — whom he regarded as his enemies — wanted to claim his vast collection of Sith lore and ritual for themselves.

He was eventually betrayed and overthrown by his followers, forcing him to flee the planet Korriban. Through his power he eventually rose above his peers to claim the position of Dark Lord of the Sith, and then returned to conquer his home world of Prakith where he ruled for centuries as a deity until his death. The Jedi Order feared Darth Andeddu to such a degree that they attempted to eradicate any trace of his existence from all possible sources – but both Sith and Dark Jedi knew of his legendary ability to transcend death, and his legacy was passed to many others long after his physical death.
