Grenades are items which you can buy from other players or craft for yourself that you can throw at enemies to stun, slow, burn, freeze in place or incapacitate them and add a little extra damage to your attacks.
When to Use Grenades

While they are generally not considered useful for normal content, skilled PvPers will often use grenades to slow, freeze, knock out or stun their enemies, giving them extra time during objectives-based matches. Different types of grenades fill up the resolve bar in different ways, so being clever about when to use each grenade is a skill just like knowing when to use your normal stun or slow abilities.

In any fights with small enemies (rather than bosses), grenades can also be useful to keep enemies occupied for a bit, preventing them from attacking you. This can be anything from basic quests, to heroic quests, all the way up to Master Mode Flashpoints or Operations if they happen to have smaller stunnable enemies. They may become especially useful during Classic and Expert mode ventures – where players take extra damage from enemies, making all fights harder.

Grenade Types
Each grenade type works a little different, so you’ll want to use the right kind for the right job:

Pyro Grenade: Sets up to 5 enemy targets in a 6 meter area ablaze, dealing elemental damage over 12 seconds – the extra damage is equal to the grenade’s initial damage, burning the enemy every 4 seconds 3 times. This is the pure-damage grenade.

Cartel Waste Grenade: Deals kinetic damage to up to 5 targets within 6 meters of the selected area, and reduces movement speed for 8 seconds. This is the “slow” grenade. The amount of slow goes up with the grenade number levels, V-4 slows by 25%, V-5 slows by 40%, V-6 slows by 55%, V-7 and up slows by 70%.

Electro-Stun Grenade: Shocks up to 3 targets in the area for energy damage, and stuns them briefly. Tougher enemies are stunned for a shorter duration. Most enemies will be stunned for 6 seconds, strong enemies with a silver star will be stunned for 4 seconds, and elite or stronger enemies with a gold star will be stunned for 2 seconds. This is the “stun” grenade.

Freeze Bomb: Freezes up to 4 targets within 6 meters of the selected area, dealing energy damage and preventing movement for a few seconds. Damage dealt after 2 seconds ends the effect prematurely. This is the freeze-in-place / movement-stopping grenade. The amount of time enemies are frozen goes up with each grenade level: V-1, V-2, and V-3 lasts 2 seconds, then V-4 lasts 3 seconds, V-5 lasts 4 seconds, V-6 lasts 5 seconds, and V-7 and up last 6 seconds.

Seismic Grenade: Disrupts the earth beneath all targets within 6 meters of the selected area, dealing kinetic damage and knocking them unconscious for 4 seconds. Damage causes this effect to end prematurely.
All grenades have a cooldown of 3 minutes before you can use another of any kind, and when you use a grenade on an enemy, they get protected against anyone using a grenade against them for 3 minutes.
Grenades do not require a certain level to use – instead, they scale up to a maximum level. For example, if you are level 1 on Tython, using either a V-1 grenade or V-9 grenade won’t – matter – you’ll only do a little bit of damage regardless. But if you try and use a V-1 grenade on a higher-level character somewhere higher-level like Corellia, the V-1 grenade’s damage will cap out as much lower than the V-9 grenade. Most players worry less about the damage, and use grenades more for their stunning properties instead.
Crafting Grenades

Crafting grenades yourself is pretty easy. All players with the Cybertech crew skill can craft the basic blue-bordered grenades, with more and higher-level versions becoming unlocked directly from the Cybertech crew skills trainer as you level up. The purple-bordered versions, which do more damage their their matching blue counterparts, can be learned by first crafting the blue ones, then reverse-engineering them. For every stack of three you reverse-engineer, you have a 60% chance of learning the Advanced purple-bordered version.

This is a list of every crafted grenade in the game. How much damage they do won’t be exact, but you can use the numbers to compare how much a low level grenade might do to a high-level one.

Other Grenades
Contained Spore Bomb: Spore Bomb Releases weaponized sporefall in a small area. Affected Targets will take increased damage from all sources. Only works in the Dantooine Crash Site, and requires the Friend rank to buy/use.
“Miniature Black Hole” Gravity Grenade: Not actually a grenade, just a companion gift.- Farium Grenades: An old type of crafted grenade. Winds up being similar to the V-7 Grenades. Some players may still be able to craft these, but you can not learn the schematic now.
- Regenerating Grenades: A type of reuseable grenade that is tied to the 8.0 Ventures modes. Similar but not the same as crafted grenades.
- XR-9 Scrambler Grenade in Suspension Chamber: A decoration, not an actual grenade.
Before 2015, there used to be reuseable grenades. These were removed at the launch of the Knights o the Fallen Empire expansion. All previously reusable Cybertech grenades are no longer reusable. They are now more powerful than their Prototype equivalent. This is to balance the crafting skill with others and to encourage a market of these crafted items.
