SWTOR Pets Guide

Pet collecting is a hobby you can pick up in SWTOR anytime you’re looking for something a little different than what you usually do. There’s over 250 pets listed in the game’s files to collect!

What pets do you have?

Your pets are located in your abilities panel – press “P” on you keyboard or click the star icon on the menu to open it up. You can have two pets out at a time – one flying pet, and one ground pet. Pets can also be placed in your stronghold as decorations once you have unlocked them.

Cartel Pets and Buyable Pets

There are over a hundred pets available from Cartel Packs – if you are interested in collecting these ones, I suggest buying them from the GTN. You can get some very cheap pets on the GTN by choosing the category “Pets” then sorting them by “Unit Price”! Pets that are lit up are ones you don’t have yet on your character, ones that are greyed out are ones you already have. These pets can run anywhere from 5,000 to 5 Million credits depending on their scarcity.

Other types of pets can only be gained through special promotions – like having pre-ordered expansions or buying retired Cartel Coin cards from various vendors. If you’ve missed out on these you will never be able to get them!

Special Pets

My favorite type of pets are ones you can earn ingame through questing – these can not be bought, only earned! See the SWTOR Secret Pets guide.

There’s the Orokeet pet – a tiny green bird that can only be hatched by finding one of their hidden nests, snatching an egg, and then incubating it in the perfect place on Tatooine.

There’s also the Taunlet – a tiny tauntaun pet that requires a tasty snack made with ingredients across the galaxy, and using it to lure this little fellow out form his home on Hoth.

If you’ve earned yourself a pair of macrobinoculars, there are two special pets you can earn. The first is fairly easy to get, and involves take your macrobinculars out on the planet of CZ-198. The second is a very long quest that has you scan hidden probes across the galaxy to earn the elusive MCR-100 Miniprobe pet.

There are also lots of pets that drop exclusively from certain Flashpoints and Operations – if you happen to win one, consider yourself lucky! These can also be bought on the GTN but are usually very, very expensive.

Galactic Command crates also drop pets, but you can buy these pets on the GTN if you don’t think you’re lucky enough to get one in the crates.

The last type of pets can be earned through Reputation – you must up your Reputation with different factions before you can buy these pets, so get cracking!

Why collect pets?

There are no real benefits to pet collecting other than the fun of the chase, and the enjoyment of owning a collection. If you’re serious about trying to catch them all, check out SWTOR-ultras.com, where you can track your collection and see what you are missing.
