The Nar Shaddaa Nightlife event is a limited time event in Star Wars: The Old Republic where you can head to Nar Shaddaa and gamble your credits away for a chance to win some unique prizes during this once-yearly event set in the summer.
LIMITED TIME EVENT: This year’s event is live! It’s running July 9 – August 20, 2024. There have been some major changes to the way the wins/losses work on the machines, there is a new helmet item to win from the Emperor’s Grace slot machine, there are achievements for winning (or re-winning) some of the previous rewards like the weapons, and there are two new dyes available on the Golden Certificates vendor.
- High Stakes Squadron Helmet – Binds to Legacy, small chance to be won from the Emperor’s Grace slot machine
- Double Agent Dye Module – 6 Golden Certificates (earned during the event)
- Shady Gambler Dye Module – 6 Golden Certificates (earned during the event)
New Conquest Objectives:
- Nar Nightlife: Spin to Win: Win on Smuggler’s Luck, Kingpin’s Bounty, or Emperor’s Grace. [5 times]
- Nar Nightlife: Graced by the Emperor: Play Emperor’s Grace slot machines. [20 times]
“New” Achievements:
(located under Events -> General -> Nar Shaddaa Nightlife)
- You Get a Skiff!: Won a High Roller Skiff from an Emperor’s Grace slot machine.
- Astonishing Armory: Collect all [6] of the High Roller weapons. (these are Binds on Equip, so you may be able to buy these or if you have unequipped copies send them in the mail to another character to trigger this achievement)
- High Stakes Squadron Member: Obtained a High Stakes Squadron Helmet from an Emperor’s Grace slot machine. (the new reward)
- Emperor’s Prize / Jackpot Enjoyer / Praise the Hutt: Won a prize from an Emperor’s Grace slot machine [1/10/100] times. (this includes winning small prizes, not just jackpots)
Win/Losses Machine Changes Summary
- Like previous years, the BEST way to get tokens, including the expensive ones, is by playing content in the game. The most commonly run content that player play for tokens is Operations, and Veteran Mode flashpoints, as each boss in an Operation / Flashpoint has a good chance of dropping tokens, including the rare and expensive Emperor’s Token.
- You can now lose on the Emperor’s Grace slot machine (before you would always win a prize or your chip back). Emperor’s Grace and Emperor’s Grace Max Bet no longer will award Chips of any kind.
- You can get the Good Karma buff from the purple Kingpin’s Bounty machines, it gives you an improved chance of winning at the Kingpin’s Bounty slots (purple ones) or Emperor’s Grace slots (Hutt one). It lasts ten (10) minutes, or until a Kingpin’s Bounty win, or until an Emperor’s Grace win, death, or departing the area. So you want to watch for it, and if you get it, you likely don’t want to waste it on the Kingpin’s purple slot machines. Note that a “win” may include lesser prizes you don’t want, BUT, it will not disappear if you win a Golden Certificate!
- You can get the Feeling Lucky buff from the green Smuggler’s Luck machines, it gives you an improved chance of winning at the Kingpin’s Bounty slots (purple ones) or Emperor’s Grace slots (Hutt one). It lasts two (only 2! hurry!) minutes, or until a Kingpin’s Bounty win, or until an Emperor’s Grace win, death, or departing the area. So you want to watch for it, and if you get it, you likely don’t want to waste it on the Kingpin’s purple slot machines. Note that a “win” may include lesser prizes you don’t want, BUT, it will not disappear if you win a Golden Certificate!
- / Lucky and Good Karma will increase your odds of winning on Kingpin’s Bounty (purple machine). Good Karma will increase your odds even further than Lucky.
- + Lucky and Good Karma can stack on Emperor’s Grace Slot Machines to increase the chance of winning all the way to 100%. So if you get both buffs, then you can spin the Emperor’s Grace without losing until you win a prize better than a Golden Certificate, and you’ll likely win a bunch of Golden Certificates as you spin with both buffs until then!
- The super-expensive hidden Max Bet Emperor’s Grace Slot Machine cannot lose. Max Bet instead increases the chance of a Jackpot win (any non-certificate drop) with the buffs.
- If you do not have a lot of money or a lot of Emperor’s Grace tokens, you can get the best chance of winning something by first playing the Kingpin’s Bounty machines until you eventually get the Good Karma Buff (lasts ten minutes), then play the green Smuggler’s Luck machines until you hopefully get the Feeling Lucky buff (lasts 2 minutes) so you have both, then go quickly use your Emperor’s Grace tokens for a 100% chance of winning something.
Here’s a video about the event, up to date for last year – it’s just missing the new newest items!
How Does the Event Work?
The event itself is very simple, and involves spending credits on slot machine tokens, just like at a real casino. The difference is that most players spend credits hoping to win cosmetic prizes, rather than to win more credits.
A majority of the prizes from the event can not be bought or sold to other players – they can only be won in the casino. Some of the prizes are bound to your character, and others are legacy-bound and can be transferred between your characters. The chance of winning a prize is very low, and many players sink millions of credits into the machines hoping to win. Some people get lucky and win on the first try, and other may never win anything even after spending 50 million credits. Winning is truly up to chance.
To preview all the prizes and their costs, head to the back of the casino. Some prizes can only be won by luck on specific machines, while others can be bought with Golden Certificates which are also won from the machines.
How to Start
If you want an introduction to the event, you can interact with the floating terminal in the center ring of the republic or imperial fleet which will give you some free gambling chips and send you towards the event on Nar Shaddaa. This introductory quest can be started at level 15 or higher.
The casino where the event takes place is located roughly in the middle of Nar Shaddaa’s map, in the Star Cluster Casino on the republic side and the Club Vertical club imperial side. Any character that has earned their ship and can travel to Nar Shaddaa can participate in this event.
How to Play
Once you get to the Casino you’ll see a bunch of players playing with the slot machines. There are three types of slot machines – Smuggler’s Luck, Kingpin’s Bounty and Emperor’s Grace.
Tokens
Chips to play these slots can either be bought directly from a vendor, or dropped from enemies while playing.
Tokens are per-character, and you can see how many you have on your character by opening your inventory then click the Currency tab.
Buying tokens: Tokens can be bought from the droid in a tuxedo named Casino Cashier, and a decent amount are also dropped from enemies out in the open world. If you are buying tokens from the vendor, you can easily buy them in bulk by holding SHIFT, right clicking the tokens and dragging them into your inventory. You’ll then be able to use the slider to specify exactly how many chips you want to buy.
- Emperor’s Casino Chip: 7.5 Million Credits
- Kingpin’s Casino Chip: 100,000 Credits
- Smuggler’s Casino Chip: 5,0000 Credits
Free Tokens: If you are looking to get tokens for free, they also drop from enemies while playing. There’s two main suggested methods. The first is a fit funky – go kill whatever enemies you can find on Tython, Ord Mantell, Hutta or Korriban, but thsi seems to have some type of limit in place. The other method is to run Veteran Mode flashpoints, as each boss in a Flashpoint has a good chance of dropping tokens, including the rare and expensive Emperor’s Token. You’ll also see tokens drop from Operation Bosses too.
Smuggler’s Luck Machine
The first type of slot machine is the Smuggler’s luck, it’s the more common green one in the casino. It has a much lower chance of winning anything, but the tokens to play it cost a lot less, and it can be a way to win prizes on the cheap. To play it, buy a Smuggler’s casino chip and right click a the machine. Playing the slot machines doesn’t require an skill – whether you win or not is simply up to luck.
When you put a token into the smuggler luck machine, you have a chance of having one of these outcomes :
- losing and getting nothing
- a high chance of winning Smuggler’s tokens back
- a low chance of winning Kingpin chips
- the machine explodes and grants you an achievement called Quality Assurance
- or a very low chance of winning a Golden Certificate, which is the best outcome and can be turned in for prizes.
The Smuggler’s luck slot machines also have a chance of giving you a special buff called ‘Feeling Lucky’ which lasts for two minutes and increases your chance of winning while playing the expensive slot machines.
If you want to speed up the process, you can play multiple machines at once!
Kingpin’s Bounty Slot Machine
The Kingpin’s bounty slot machines are a lot more expensive to play, but give you the ability to win actual prizes.
When you play the Kingpin machine, you have a similar chance to the cheaper machines of simply losing or winning your tokens back. However, you also have a slightly higher chance of winning golden certificates, and an incredibly low chance of winning a very rare exclusive prize that can’t be bought from the vendor or won from the normal Smuggler’s machines. You can also win an Emperor’s Casino Chip (see below).
- losing and getting nothing
- a high chance of winning Kingpin’s tokens back
- a small chance of winning a Golden Certificate
- a low chance of winning a Cartel Certificate
- the machine explodes and grants you an achievement called Quality Assurance
If you get lucky and win an actual prize from the Kingpin’s machine, you’ll win:
- Mercenary Contract (Phrojo Nurray companion)
- Vector BWL Wraith
- Emperor’s Casino Chip
The Kingpin’s Bounty machines also have a chance of giving you a special buff called ‘Good Karma’ which lasts for ten minutes and increases your chance of winning while playing the expensive slot machines.
Emperor’s Grace Slot Machine
The Emperor’s Slot Machine is the jackpot machine and looks like a statue of a golden Hutt.
The Emperor’s Casino Chip are the most expensive type of token at 7.5 million each, but there are certain prizes that can only be won on the Emperor’s Grace machine. For players who have the credits, it’s best to play the Emperor’s Grace slot machine.
Here are the common prizes from the Emperor’s Grace Slot Machine:
- Lose and get nothing
- 1 or 2 Golden Certificates
- 1 or 2 Cartel Market Certificates
Here is what can drop in terms of prizes if you get lucky from the Emperor’s Grace Slot Machine:
- High Stakes Squadron Helmet
- High Roller Skiff (mount)
- Lucky Pritarr (mount)
- Kingpin’s Predator (mount)
- High Roller Shades (armor)
- Proud Pritarr Cub (pet)
- Fiery Grefna Chick (pet)
- Shimmering Ginx (pet)

Max Bet Machines, Max Bet tokens, and VIP Area
If you head to the VIP area up the elevator in the center of the Fleet, you’ll have access to three new types of machines called “Max Bet” machines. If you are unable to enter the elevator, you will first need to buy the wristband from the droid vendor in the cantina nearby for 1,000,000 credits.
The Max Bet tokens are very expensive. They apparently have a better chance of winning, but cost 20 times the amount normal tokens. They still give you only a single spin of one of the Max Bet machines, and there’s a Max Bet machine for each type of normal machine. There are no items that are exclusive to the Max Bet machines, so you do not need to play them to get all the rewards.
For the Smuggler’s Casino Chip and Kingpin’s Casino Chip, these Max Bet token may be an easy way to reduce the amount of time you spend in the casino. If you want the exclusive prizes, just play the normal Emperor’s Grace machine and ignore the Max bet one! I think the only time I might recommend the Emperor’s Grace Max Bet machines is when you have over 10 Billion Credits to burn. Otherwise, you may feel you don’t get a good return on what you spend to buy them.
One great use of the Max Bet tokens is to turn in any piles of Smuggler’s or Kingpin’s chips you have into Max Bet one (rather than buying them with credits) which will reduce your clicks in the Casino by a factor of 20.
Do note, the Emperor’s Grace Max Bet machine cannot lose, but if you have one or both of the buffs, it increases the chance of a Jackpot win (any non-certificate drop).
Careful Gambling
While playing, keep in mind that gambling can be very addictive. This event is meant to be a fun way to spend some credits and pretend you are part of the Nar Shaddaa nightlife scene – but it has a lot of the same attributes as a real-life casino. Make sure to set goals about how many credits you want to spend, and don’t go beyond that. Same thing goes for time – if you find yourself in the casino for more than a couple hours, you might need a break! If you have to dip into your real-life money to buy cartel coins to sell to buy more gambling tokens, it also might be time for you to take a break. Although a lot of the prizes you can win from the slot machines are very cool, a majority of them can be found as different versions in other parts of the game, and will likely return the next time the event rolls by, so don’t stress too much about getting them. Unlike winning big in real life, winning big in the Nar Shadda casino’s won’t be a life-changing event.
You also have to remember that although math can give us an idea about the odds and potential credits you could spend to win a certain prize, it can’t guarantee us actually beating the odds. In my case, I spent about 30 million credits and 2 hours while making this guide and I won some great prizes… but I didn’t win the rarest prize possible, and I might not win it even if I decide to sink in another 30 million!
I hope you enjoy your stay on Nar Shaddaa during the Nightlife Event is enjoyable and prosperous, but remember, the house always wins!
Quests
There is a set of story quests available for the Nar Shaddaa Nightlife event. You can start it from the glowing blue floating terminal on the Fleet, which will lead you to speak to a quest giver at the back of the casino.
Before you complete the actual quest called “Fair Play Enforcer”, visit the crate located in the casino area, it will have a yellow quest triangle over it. Pick up all the quests there – one is an actual quest, the other is a list of six quests combined in to one. The other quests can be picked up from a character in the back of the casino with a yellow quest marker over their head, one by one in order.
GROUP BUG: If you are in a group, you will not be able to talk to the Rodian or any other questgiver. Do not do these quests while in a group, though a friend can come help fight or heal you if you get stuck on the combat parts.
Dubious Odds Quest
“Dubious Odds” is the quest that tracks your progress for all six short casino event quests. To complete it you need to do these six quests:
- Complete “Buy In, Sell Out” (from the crate)
- Complete “Fair Play Enforcer”
- Complete “Boss Said Knock You Out”
- Complete “Counterfeit Tokens: Mek-Sha”
- Complete “Counterfeit Tokens: Nar Shaddaa”
- Complete “Data Driven Services”
This specific quest is one-time, the other quests seem repeatable.
Buy In, Sell Out Quest
This is a fun short quest that has you advertise three different businesses. The clues for how to advertise are in the quest description when you open it in the quest panel.
Advertise for Universal Bonds & Bounty: Go up to any type of Patron or Customer in the casino and click them to select them, and click the Universal Bounds & Bounty Pamphlet quest item, which will be located near your quest on the top right of your screen.
Advertise for Artellian Securities: Find one of the glowing blue microphones in the casino and right click them to sing a jingle advertisement.
Advertise for Bugrep Rare Metals: Find the colorful dance floor in the back of the casino and right click it to dance an advertisement.
Fair Play Enforcer Quest
You will need to find the cheating card player. Click the macrobinculars located near your quest on the top right of your screen.
Look around with your mouse. Left click on the blue aqua circles when the circles turn yellow orange. Right click to zoom out. ESC to exit the macrobinculars. When you find the cheater the text will turn red. Do not use your own Macrobinoculars if you earned them through questing on Makeb.
Note, this specific quest is not new, but it is part of the new 6-part quest.
Boss Said Knock You Out Quest
Find any Customer or Patron, left click them, then click the green icon on your temporary ability bar to expel them – it doesn’t matter who you pick. If this ability did not show up and is missing, you will need to open the quest, Abandon the Boss Said Knock You Out Quest quest, then talk to the NPC to pick it up again. The temporary ability should then appear.
Potential bug: If you are not able to see the temporary abilities listed above after picking up the quest, go in to your quests, find the quest, ABANDON it with the button on the bottom, then re-pick up the quest from the NPC in the back of the casino. The temporary ability bar should appear this time.
Data Driven Sciences Quest
This is a fun puzzle-solving quest. You need to convince the three types of casino visitors to buy more casino chips. The hints for this quest are available by clicking the different types of visitors and reading their buffs that appear as small icon above their character portrait, you can read them by hovering your mouse over the icons. To convince them, go close to them, left click them, then use the temporary ability that will pair well with their current thoughts. (Note, they will also have buffs for the other types of quests.) If you choose the wrong ability nothing happens.
- Convince Affable Clients: Aggressive Marketing
- Convince Gullible Patrons: Sunk Cost Fallacy ability
- Convince Tough Customers: Manipulative Argument
Potential bug: If you are not able to see the temporary abilities listed above after picking up the quest, go in to your quests, find the quest, ABANDON it with the button on the bottom, then re-pick up the quest from the NPC in the back of the casino. The temporary ability bar should appear this time.
Counterfeit Tokens: Nar Shaddaa Quest
Take the taxi to the Nar Shaddaa Lower Promenade and talk to the Sly Informant by right clicking them (they will not have a quest marker). Then take a taxi to the Corellian Sector. Then follow the yellow spinning circle to the Marked site.
This specific quest is one-time.
Counterfeit Tokens: Mek-Sha Quest
Fly to Mek-Sha and talk to the Sly Informant not too far away at the Three Points quicktravel on the bottom left of the Mek-Sha map. Then follow the yellow spinning circle to the Marked site.
This is a LEVEL 75 quest area, though the quest can be done at any level – if you are low-level you may need a higher-level friend to escort or summon you to the location to get past the higher level enemies you may or may not run in to.
You can either take a bribe, or kill/capture the red Twi’lek at the end of the quest.
You can get a GURANTEED GOOD KARMA BUFF by choosing to KILL or CAPTURE the Red Twi’leks crew (If you chose the wrong options, you can’t re-do it, it gets buggy.) But unfortunately this buff disappears if you leave the planet – and I don’t think there is an Emperor’s Grace machine on Mek-Sha. You can always use it to try and win some stuff on the Kingpin machines on Mek-Shs though.
House Money
Along the wall of the casino, you would pick up a one-time quest called “House Money” that rewarded you free chips if you play ten slot machines.
Nightlife Event Rewards
There are many rewards available from the SWTOR Nightlife casino event. A majority of them can be bought with Golden Certificates, which can be won from the slot machines. You can spend your Golden Certificates in the back of the main casino on Nar Shaddaa, there are three vendors side by side and the rewards are scattered between them. In previous years, these vendors stuck around even after the event.
