Life Day Event Guide (SWTOR)

The Life Day Event is a limited-time event in Star Wars: The Old Republic that only takes place once a year in the winter. The event focuses on the fiction Star Wars holiday of Life Day, allowing you to throw snowballs, hug wookiees, and earn holiday-themed rewards. You can participate in the event as early as level 10, you just need to complete your first planet. Unlike the other limited-time events, the Life Day event has no quests and is not very involved – players often participate in the snowball throwing part of the event while doing Flashpoints, Operations, PvP or just while hanging out on the Fleet.

We do not know when the 2024 event will take place, but likely early December 2024.

Newer 2022/2023 Rewards

There some wonderful updates to this last year’s Life Day event. The fleet is decorated for Life day – it’s different on Republic and Imperial so check both sides to see the decorations!

How to Start the Life Day Event

To start the Life Day Event, head to the Galactic Trade Market section of the Republic or Imperial Fleet (near the GTN) and speak to the Master of Ceremonies vendor.

There’s no quests or cutscenes, instead you can jump right in to the event by buying the item called Life Day Snowball Bomb which only costs 1,000 credits.

Throwing Snowballs

The Snowball Bomb allows you to select another player, then use the item, which will cause your character to throw a snowball at them.

The goal of the event is to gain Snow-Covered Parcels, which are the currency you can use to buy the holiday themed rewards available from the Master of Ceremonies vendor. Every time you throw a snowball at another player, who you haven’t thrown a snowball at recently, you have a chance to get a Snow-Covered Parcel.

Snow-Covered Parcels are a legacy-bound currency, and you can view how many you have in the Currency tab of your inventory.

Bug: If you have old Snow-Covered Parcels from before 2020 in your inventory and are unable to use them, mail them to one of your other characters. Once the second character takes them out of their mailbox, the parcels will be converted in to legacy currency which can be spent at the vendor.

Snowball Throwing Tips

  • You can throw snowballs at almost any type of character you can select. Another player, their companion, your companion, vendors, any enemies, turrets, non-player characters walking around, class trainers, crew skills trainers, as long as you can click them and they have a nameplate you can throw a snowball at them.
  • You have a 15% chance to getting a Snow-Covered Parcel when you throw a snowball at a character that does not already have your snowball buff showing near their character portrait.
  • If a character already has your snowball buff, you can still throw a snowball at them, but you have a 0% chance of getting anything from them. It will wear off after five minutes.
  • If another player throws a snowball at a character that already has your buff, the buff will become their buff, and you can throw another snowball at them without having to wait.
  • By default, you can’t see if the snowball buff is from you or another player. But you can turn on a settings that highlights buffs that were applied by you – press ESC > Interface Editor > Click on the Target Frame, where your enemy’s face appears > Check the Highlight Buffs checkbox after scrolling down in the middle, and Save. Then the next time you throw a snowball, your snowball buff should glow, and you’ll know not to throw another snowball at a character who has your glowing snowball buff already.
  • Your Life Day Snowball Bomb has a 15 second cooldown before you can throw another snowball.
  • You can also purchase the Life Day Snowball Cannon item from the Cartel Market for 500 Cartel Coins or from the GTN. This item is very similar to the Snowball Bomb item but it only has a 7 second cooldown. You can use both the Snowball Cannon and Snowball Bomb together to speed up your snowballing.
  • You can drag the snowball bomb item in your inventory on to your quickbar so you don’t have to constantly open your inventory to throw a snowball. You can even keybind your snowball throwing ability once it’s on your bar.
  • Alacrity speeds up your snowball throwing – the higher your alacrity stat, the lower the cooldown will be on your snowball ability down from the original 15 second cooldown.
  • You can throw a snowball at your companion by backing up as you throw it, and they will receive the buff. You can then right-click the buff near their character portrait to remove it, allowing you to throw another snowball at them.
  • Players often snowball everything that moves while doing other content like Flashpoints or Operations.
  • If you’re more of a solo player you can put a bunch of Companion decorations down in your stronghold and throw snowballs at all of them.
  • Throwing snowballs can often be good for completing conquest! Depending on the week, there is a conquest objective the throw snowballs and get 25 parcels worth many points, and each time you get a parcel also counts for the “Missions Taskmaster” objectives, also worth a ton of points.

Life Day Droids

On Coruscant, Dromund Kaas, Nar Shaddaa and Mek-Sha, you’ll also be able to find Life Day Gift Droids. These droids have a chance of turning in to Overheated Life Day Droids. Throw snowballs at the Overheated Life Day Droids for a chance of getting some holo tree decorations in addition to Snow-Covered Parcels!

Life Day Droid Tips

  • If you are looking to earn Snow-Covered Parcels, there’s a myth that the Overheated droids have a higher chance of dropping parcels. This isn’t true, but Overheated Droids are often still the most efficient way to farm parcels which I’ll explain in a bit.
  • You can see which droids are Overheated by their nameplate. They have a small visual difference on their shoulders but it’s hard to see especially when everyone is throwing snowballs.
  • There are many Life Day Droids on Nar Shaddaa and that’s where players usually head to “farm” the droids. Look for a large group of players pelting some poor red droid with snowballs.
  • The fastest way to Nar Shaddaa is to travel to your Nar Shaddaa stronghold then exit, otherwise use the Nar Shaddaa Heroic quick travel in the activity finder.
  • If a droid tries to attack you, do not attack it back, instead throw a snowball at it to cool it down.
  • If you can not find any Overheated droids, you can try a different instance, or a different map, or wait about 5 minutes and the droids will refresh and an Overheated droid may respawn somewhere on the map.
  • If you throw a snowball at an Overheated Droid, then try to throw another, you won’t get a chance to get a Parcel or Decoration from it until the Snowball buff wears off of it. However, if there are one or more other players also throwing snowballs at the same droid, every time they throw a snowball, it will refresh the snowball buff and allow you to throw your own again for a chance at a prize. So you’ll want to find an Overheated Droid that at least one other player is throwing snowballs at or bring a friend! You can even play with your Interface Editor to easily see the buffs and debuffs by you or by other players.
  • The color of the Droid’s nameplate does not matter if you are in a group of players throwing snowballs, as long as it is called an Overheated Droid.
  • You have a 20% chance of getting a decoration (and a separate 15% chance of getting a parcel) each time you throw a snowball at the Overheated Droid. If you win a decoration prize, you’ll be able to choose from these items: Life Day Holo-Tree (Blue), Life Day Holo-Tree (Green-Gold), Life Day Holo-Tree (Pink), and Life Day Holo-Tree (Red). These trees are unique to the Overheated Droid, and are bound, and can not be bought, sold or traded. There’s two other types of holotrees called the Life Day Holo-Tree (Blue-Purple) and Life Day Holo-Tree (Green) from the Snow-Covered parcel vendor for 40 parcels each.

Hugging Wookiees

In addition to throwing Snowballs during the event, you can also hug Wookiees. Hugging ten Wookiees gets you a reward of 2 parcels, and you can do this onece per day per character, and hugging 1,000 and 1,500 Wookiees gets you an achievement. To hug a Wookiee stand directly in front of it, facing it, and shuffle forward and backwards until you are within perfect hugging range.

Hugging Wookiee Tips

  • The Wookiee hugging mechanic is very finicky.
  • You need to be directly facing the Wookie, not behind it or beside it. Then a small yellow ability should appear in the middle of the screen.
  • Sometimes the little ability to hug the Wookiee does not show up even if you are directly in front of the Wookiee.  If this happens, walk far away from the Wookiee then come back to it.
  • Once you’ve hugged a Wookiee recently, the ability will not show up even if you are in front of the Wookiee.
  • If the yellow ability is greyed-out, you are likely too close or too far from the Wookiee to hug it or someone is hugging it. You need to be exactly 0.01 – 0.10 m away to hug a Wookiee.
  • You can see your distance from a Wookiee near their name and character portrait once you’ve selected them. Scooch backward and forward until you 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, 0.05, 0.06, 0.07, 0.08 or 0.09 m away.
  • When you are near a Wookiee, press the slash / key above your numpoad on the right hand side of your keyboard to “roleplay walk”. It makes it easier to get within the exact range.
  • There are Wookiees on the Republic & Imperial Fleet, Nar Shaddaa and Mek-Sha (high-level planet, even accessible by Free-to-Play players!).
  • The Wookiees on Mek-Sha are the most optimal for drive-by hugging, as on the other planets they are more spread out. They’re in the Slugfall Cantina / Slugfall Harbor walkaround area outside the cantina.
  • On Nar Shaddaa, the Wookiees are near the golden Hutt statue but are quite spread out.
  • You can hug each Wookiee once per hour. However once you’ve hugged all the Wookiees in an area, you can press M for map, and switch to a different instance using the dropdown where you will be able to hug all the Wookiees again without waiting an hour. Once you’ve hugged all the Wookiees in all the instances you’ll need to wait though. There is a short timer you need to wait for between switching instances after you do it the first time.
  • You can also hug Wookiees on multiple characters all over again. Hopping between characters is probably the fastest way to get your Wookiee hugging on, ideally on Mek-Sha.
  • I saw this tip on the forums by player DarkTergon: “I found that if you click the Wookiee first, and move the camera so it’s facing, down, ie see the top of the head, there’s a green circle around the Wookiee, if you stand on the point/tip of the circle you can hug them no problem, no shifting, etc.”

Wookiees on Mek-Sha

You are too far away to hug your Wookiee:

Your Wookiee needs you to back up:

You gave this Wookiee a hug too recently and need to wait an hour to hug that one in that instance:

Someone is already hugging this Wookiee, wait a moment:

Success! You are in the perfect position to hug a Wookiee:

Wait a few minutes and you will be able to switch instances again:

Achievements

There’s some fun achievements related to the Life Day event that are meant to be completed over time. The notable ones are:
