Secret Botanical Mystery Dantooine Biomes Achievement

If you enjoy exploring the Dantooine Biomes, the A Botanical Mystery and A Botanical Mystery II hidden achievements send you with a pair of secret botanical scanners to look for mystery flowers in the Dantooine Crash Site’s biomes.

Dantooine Biomes

If you are not familiar with the Dantooine Biomes, they are a level 80 area introduced in Update 7.8 You can learn how to start on the Dantooine Biomes guide.

SWTOR Dantooine Biome Dynamic Encounters Guide

Visit the Tent

The first step is to head to the north west (top left) area in the Sporefall biome, and walk over to the tent there which is easy to find along the main pathway on the map.

If you hover your mouse over the datapad in the tent, you will get a hint about the achievement.

“We’ve found what appears to be an entirely unknown flowering plant among the wreckage. If I can gather enough data, maybe they’ll name it after me! It grows in unusual places, so I’ve left myself a list of reminders in order to locate them again for further analysis.”

Walking near the tent will make the hidden achievement A Botanical Mystery visible!

Grab the Botanical Scanners inside the tent. If you are having trouble right-clicking the glowing blue scanners, angle your camera downwards so the tent top is not getting in the way. It will keep glowing even after you click it, so you can re-pick them up if you lost the item.

How to Use Botanical Scanners

Once you’ve picked up the Scanners, they become an item in your inventory you can right-click to use.

Once you are in scanning mode, you can use your mouse without clicking to move the camera around in different directions. The center of the scanner will be blue if you do not have anything scannable under it. You will be looking for yellow-orange glowing things to scan. You need to line up those glowing yellow items with the center of the macrobinoculars until the symbols in the center turn yellow-orange too, then left-click to zoom-in and scan the object.  You can zoom out again by right-clicking. Once done you can press ESC on your keyboard to return to running around.

View the Hints

You’ll now be able to see the hints in the  A Botanical Mystery II achievement, located in Dynamic Encounters -> Dantooine -> General. This achievement will also help you keep track of which ones you have found.

Find the Flowers

There are eight flowers hidden across all the biomes and camps. Some are very difficult to find with the scanner. When you do find one with the scanner, it will be glowing blue and light up the scanner edges in orange.

Calibrating aspirational growth goals

This is the hardest flower to find – it is on the very top left petals of the giant mutant flower in the Glacial Trespass cave. It is very hard to get your camera aligned so you can see it – back up as far as you can from the flower while still being on its little rock plateau, and scoot to the left.

Enjoying the slightly toxic spray

This flower is hiding up on the rocks near the waterfalls in the Geothermal biome.

Freezing above a mouth

This flower is in the Glacial biome, above a cave mouth heading into the Glacial Trespass cavern.

If the snowstorm is not allowing you to scan, you may need to go pick up the buff from the Hazard Mitigation Module at the Hero rank that gives you immunity – or just stand in a spot that doesn’t put you in the blizzard where you can still see the flower.

Observing the observers

This flower is in the big Research Camp, above the northern exit in a pipe.

Overlooking fledglings, limned by moonlight

This flower is in a cute little area with Ororbird fledglings, in the southern big Research Camp tunnel.

Serenaded by a chorus of croaks

This flower is hidden in the area with the giant Ginx on the top right of the map, very high up.

Spying on a forward camp

In the Sporefall area map, there is a jump pad near the Sporefall Forward Camp. I believe you can only use this if you have earned the Repulsor Pad Unlock from Ruhnuk, from the Relic Hunt quest.

When you use it, you go up a tree to a landing pad. There is a second jump pad up there to go higher. The flower will be hiding up high on the far side.

Wilting in the heat

This flower is in the Lava Cave, in the southern area of the Geothermal biome.

While you are in the Lava Cave, you might want to go up onto the catwalks and grab another secret, the Level Five Geological Aptitude Badge on the floor, halfway through the catwalk! You won’t see it appear until you get close enough.

This will give you a little buff called Level Five! shaped like a star badge with a purple background – it will sadly go away if you die. If you’ve found some of the secret Datapads and explored beyond the limits of the big Research Camp, you may know where to take this secret buff!
