SWTOR The Dragon’s Maw Chapter Guide / Chapter 6 KOTET Puzzle Guide

Chapter 6 of the Knights of the Eternal Throne expansions has a special non-combat based puzzle you need to solve, set in Vaylin’s palace called the Dragon’s Maw on Zakuul, during a party to celebrate her victory. You are disguised as a Knight of Zakuul, and must sneak your way into the different parts of here palace and infiltrate her party using clues.

Quest Objectives

The quest will have you do a few conversations in your Odessan base, then have you take a shuttle to Zakuul, then walk into the party as a Zakuul Knight. You won’t be able to use any of your normal abilities.

Map

Here’s a giant map of the puzzle if you need it of all three floors – but I recommend following step by step below instead, each step is explained.

Meet Indo Zal

Plant Ion Charges

The main part of the quest is the plant the ion charges on the six control nodes. This is a puzzle, as the control nodes are hidden behind locked inaccessible doors and also require a pass-key to open. You will need to talk to different enemies, guards and even chefs while in disguise, to figure out what you need to get inside.

If you want the game to help you at any time, you can use the temporary ability called “Hint” on your temporary ability bar, and it will give you a hint to do the next step. There is no penalties for hints!

Step 1 – Speak to the Barracks Guard on the upper floor.

The first step is to go speak to the Barracks Guard on the upper floor. To get there, use the big stairs  in the Grand Foyer.

The Knight of Zakuul will say: “No entry till shift change. Unless you’ve got our food order…”

Step 2 – Speak to the kitchen attendant on the main floor.

Jump or walk down to the main floor. Walk across the ballroom to the kitchen attendant in the north west.

You’ll threaten the kitchen attendant into letting you in since you spoke to the barrack’s guard.

Step 3 – Search the kitchen for something to bring to the hungry guards.

Inside the kitchen, right-click the glowing blue food locker.

It will give you an item in your mission inventory to bring to the barracks guards.

Step 4 – Ion Charge on Control Node #1

You can now walk into the storage area and plant the first ion charge, it is unlocked.

Step 5 – Open the broken control panel in sub-level.

You can now go down the stairs directly beside and inside the kitchen to the sub-level Loading Docks. Down there you will find a locked blue door with no guard, and you can right-click the broken control panel to open the door and sneak in.

Step 6 – Steal Access Badge in sub-level.

In the basement level, past the broken door, there will be a glowing blue datapad with a blinking green light near two maintenance workers. Right-click the small glowing access badge to steal the Maintenance Access Foreman’s Badge.

You can use the the door console to go back out the way you came in – it is now unlocked.

Bonus Quest – Networking Opportunities (Bonus)

You will get a bonus quest now to Access Palace Server Network. It gives no credits or item rewards.

Step 7 – Ion Charge on Control Node #2

You can now go back up the Loading Dock stairs to the main floor which will put you in the kitchen.

Nearby to the kitchen is a hallway leading to the second quest objective – you can now unlock the glowing blue doors by right-clicking them since you have the access badge!

Step 8 – Deliver food to the barracks.

From the main floor, go up the big stairs in the Grand Foyer (not the kitchen stairs) and head to the Guard’s Barracks with the food you picked up from the kitchen earlier.

Inside the room, once the guard lets you in, right-click the table to put the food down with the yellow arrow above it.

This will draw the guards over. It is not timed – you don’t need to rush.

Step 9 – Get the Knight-Captain’s Shield.

Once the guards move, you can go into the storage area and right-click the glowing blue shield. This will make lower ranking Zakuul Knights believe you are a Captain!

Step 10 – Ion Charge on Control Node #6

From the Guard Barracks, you can use your access badge to unlock the door in the west and go set the ion charge on the sixth quest objective.

Step 11 – Ion Charge on Control Node #5

Still on the top floor, head north along the nice little walkway cantina area. Look for a Knight of Zakuul guarding a blue door, with a yellow arrow over his head. Now that you have the Captain’s shield, he will let you pass.

Walk down the hallway and since you have the access badge, you can unlock the blue door by right-clicking it.

And plant Ion Charge #3!

Step 12 – Security Center

Jump or walk your way down to the main ballroom, and walk south to the Security Center. Right-click the Knight of Zakuul, and since you have the Captain’s shield, he will let you in.

Step 13 – Bonus Step – Access the Data Room

You can now get inside the Security Room.

Skip to step 14  if you do not want to do the bonus.

Go and right-click the glowing blue terminal in the south east of the room.

It will say: It would be too conspicuous to do this with people watching nearby.

Look for a datapad with a blinking green light on a nearby desk.

This will create a distraction causing the guards to walk away. You can now go back and right-click that blue glowing terminal, the right-click the glowing blue door to get in.

In the corner of this room, there will be a computer terminal you can right-click – it is not glowing blue by default.

The door in the basement will now be unlocked when you go back down there!

Step 14 – Open Beast Pit Door

You can now go down the stairs in the Security Center to get to the sub-level. There will be a big door blocking your way – right-click it to open it, it is not glowing by default.

Step 15 – Optional – Medicine

Right-click the glowing blue plate in front of the creature named Bergola in the beast pit. The creature doesn’t want to eat its medicine because it smells bad – you can learn this by hovering your mouse over the item you get in your Mission inventory after you pick up the mixture, or you can learn this from the two beast pit workers chatting to eachother.

Step 16 – Ion Charge on Control Node #3

Inside the beast pit area is another ion charge to plant in the south west, walk right in.

Step 17 – Unlock machine room.

You can now run to the north of the pit maintenance crew and open the door to the machine room by right-clicking the panel beside the blue door.

Inside the machine room is a glowing blue terminal you can right-click. This unlocks the nearby door so you can easily walk out of the room.

Step 18 – Bonus Quest – Server Room

You should be able to right-click the button beside the server room door now across the hallway.

In the back of the server room is a glowing blue button on an orange computer you can right-click.

Step 19 – Optional – Food

If you want to try helping the sick creatures in the beast pit, bring your Medicine to the kitchen and look for a non-glowing garbage can behind a Kitchen Droid you can right-click.

You will need to go into your inventory, then into the Mission Items tab, to combine the two items by right-clicking the Culinary Abomination item you got from the trash can.

From there you can run back down the stairs in the kitchen, then to the south through the machine room back to the beast care area where Bergola is. If you combined the two items, the trough will be glowing blue.

The exoboars will now help you in the coming fight!

PS, if you want to read some really cute stuff about this “secret” optional quest, Galactic Antics has a full write-up about it including some info about the different critters!

Step 20 – Ion Charge on Control Node #4

Lastly, plant the final ion charge in the Machine Room.

The Speech

Once you plant the final ion charge, Vaylin will give her speech, and you can head back to the ballroom! Look for the glowing green arrows.

Defeat Pit Beasts

You and Indo need to survive.

If you fed the beasts and gave them medicine they will help you!

Otherwise you need to fight them and the rancor.

Find Vaylin

Use the blue button near the door to open it.

Fight your way up and out.

Vaylin is allll the way upstairs in the area you couldn’t get before, but you might want to grab something before you go there.

Bonus Step – Vaylin Hologram Decoration

In the Grande Foyer, near where the big stairs are before you go up them, on the main floor, there is a glowing table with glowing blue circles on it. Right-click these to get a free Vaylin hologram decoration.

The reward comes after you complete the chapter, as a secret bonus quest called Let Her Light Up Your Home.

If you want more of these, you can replay the chapters, as you can hold up to ten total in your stronghold decorations.

Fight the Horizon Guard Captain

Escape

Escape by going down and then out through the only available doors.

Congratulations! If you solve all of the puzzles, this is a crazy-difficult chapter with many, many steps. I hope this guide helped make it a little easier.
