Dynamic Encounters Guide in SWTOR

Dynamic Encounters are a new type of scheduled, timed quests on different planets in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Some of the funny ones include carrying baby Tauntauns up hills, advertising as a Gonk droid, and launching Gamorreans into a Sarlacc pit. Dynamic encounter are now live with Update 7.6, and more are coming in Update 7.7!

How to Find Dynamic Encounters

Dynamic Encounters currently only take place on Tatooine and Hoth. You can see planets that have Dynamic Encounters available on the galaxy map – they will have a symbol of a yellow down arrow with a green-blue diamond in the center.

There is also a similar symbol which represents planets that also have Hidden Chain Invasions, which are similar to Dynamic Encounters.

When you click into a planet on your galaxy map, you can even see which encounters are active and how long they have left.

Once on the planet, your minimap will now display nearby Dynamic Encounters as diamonds.

When you roll over them on your minimap, they will give you more information like how long they will last. The border around the diamond also symbolizes how much time is left of the encounter – a diamond with a mostly white border has lots of time left,

They also show up on the bigger world map as diamonds.

Weekly Quest

There is a weekly quest that you can only pick up from the Priority Terminal, usually found on the Republic or Imperial Fleet in the Supplies section. The quest is called [WEEKLY] The Shifting Tides and gives 50 Conquest Commendations, a green level 80 gear box, and 25 FP-1 Stabilizers.

Planets

Dynamic Encounters are currently on two planets, with 7 more coming in Update 7.7

  • Quesh (shown on Galaxy Map in video)
  • Nar Shaddaa (shown on Galaxy Map in video)
  • Alderaan (shown on Galaxy Map in video)

Rewards

The developers did also show off some of the rewards from Dynamic Encounters!

At level 80, Dynamic Encounters each reward 50 Tech Fragments and 3 Conquest Commendations, making them a good way to earn Tech Fragments. At a low level, you just get XP.

Desert Sand and Frozen Peaks Mounts

Completing the meta-achievement for the Tatooine and Hoth Encounters will grant players the Desert Sand and Frozen Peaks Mounts.

To get each mount, you will need to complete one of each encounter on their planet, and 125 encounters total on that planet. These are long-term achievements meant to be earned over time – not all at once. These mounts can also hold a pet of your choice on the back of the load lifter.

You can track your progress in achievements in the section Dynamic Encounters -> Hoth/Tatooine -> Mastery -> Encounter Mastery.

New Mounts

These are coming out with Update 7.7.

Killik Stalker Larva Pet

These are coming out with Update 7.7.

Freckled Loth-Cat Kitten pet

The Freckled Loth-cat Kitten is a rare reward for completing any of the three “Wire” kitten-related dynamic encountes on Hoth. These take place only on Republic side near the Republic main base where you load in, and when you compelte any of these quests, you get a bag as a quest reward that when opened has a small chance of containing the Freckled Loth-Cat Kitten pet (it is not a reward droped from enemies). It is Binds on Equip and may be on the GTN.

Everglade Zakkeg

The Everglade Zakkeg mount drops from specific encounters.

I saw mine drop from the Champion enemy Dooto Mu Bacha from the encounter Talz Order or Hoth.

I have heard other players report it can come from Under Fire!, Snipers! and Talz Order (all on Hoth).

Potted Plant: Hoth Snowcap

The decoration Potted Plant: Hoth Snowcap comes as a potential quest reward when turning in the Snow Capped Delicacies encounter on Hoth.

The quest gives you a satchel into your inventory at the end, and if you are lucky, when you open it, you’ll get the decoration – otherwise you’ll get some junk.

Hidden Chain and Electric Gaze Armors

The Electric Gaze set seems to drop from various enemies with a gold star in their nameplate. Specific pieces do seem to drop from specific enemies/areas.  You can find the pieces on the GTN.

The Hidden Chain armor set only drops from Hidden Chain dynamic encounters.  You can find the pieces on the GTN. Read more about Hidden Chain invasions below.

Fitted Armors

The Dark Initiate’s Fitted Robe set from various enemies with a gold star in their nameplate. Specific pieces do seem to drop from specific enemies/areas.  You can find the pieces on the GTN.

On the test server, there did seem to be some other look-alike Fitted sets that did not make it to live.

  • Dark Initiate’s Fitted Robe – Harbinger’s / Battlelord’s (Imperial) – the only one i saw on the gtn
  • Wayfarer – Avenger / Antagonist’s / Overseer / Strategist (Republic)
  • Honoured Champion – Venerable Seeker’s (Republic)
  • Honoured Master – Venerable Exemplar’s (Republic)
  • Guard Captain – TH-16A Tech (Imperial)
  • CZ-18X Avalanche – TT-16A Powered Assault (Imperial)

Hidden Chain Invasions

The Hidden Chain Invasion Dynamic Encounter quest can happen on many different planets.

The planets players have seen it on include:

  • Tatooine
  • Hoth
  • Rishi

These quests can drop pieces of the Hidden Chain armor.

Tython Flower Bed (Decoration) – Random drop from doing the second step of the There is Serenity Dynamic Encounter on Tython, when you right click the planters. THis decoration can also be bought and sold on the GTN.

Orange

You have a small chance of getting a decoration item when you water the plants.

Tython Training Bay (Decoration) A reward from the Seeker of Wisdom achievement from the There is Serenity dynamic encounter on Tython. Observe the Jedi training 10 times.

See the Tython Dynamic Encounter guide for each of the locations.

Killik Stalker Larva (Pet) – Killik Stalker Larva pet is a ‘rare’ reward from the Never a K’lor’ing Day, Incubation Miscalculation and Agitated Broodmothers dynamic encounters – it can drop any time you kill any of the k’lor’slugs from these encounters while they are active. Even if you have completed the encounter, as long as the encounter is still active in the background, you can go around killing k’lor’slugs until you get one. You can also buy and sell it on the GTN, it is not bound (… and it wasn’t very expensive on my server).

During the Never a K’lor’ing Day I got lucky from the K’lor’slug Swarmers, the tiny ones running around.

Tri-tip Mining Drill (Decoration) – Random drop from the Dromund Kaas Dynamic Encounter called Purging The Cursed, on the second step where you destroy the drills, a gold star enemy named Possessed Overseer will spawn after you destroy the drills and has a chance to drop the tri-tip mining drill

An

Ancient Kaas Sarcophagus (Decoration) – Sacrificed in Vain Achievement– Defeat the Fully Empowered Ritual Master in Ritual Killing encounter. This is a bit hard to get when there are other people around – I think you need to let all the smaller Venerous Cultists enemies walk up to the Ritual Master without killing them. Then when all the blue pillars are right-clicked, if you are patient, he will sacrifice all of them and be fully empowered. If you come late to the area, and someone else has already killed some of the enemies, if you want the achievmeent you will want to wait for the encounter to reset so you can do it. Likewise, if you come in late and someone has already let the Ritual Master sacrifice everyone, just tagging the fully empowered Ritual Master will do the trick for the achievement.

An

In the screenshot below, the Venerous Cultists are shielded and their blue pillars have not been clicked – once their blue pillars have been clicked, they will stand up and be attackable. Once all the blue pillars have been clicked, they will walk to the center to be sacrificed.

I’m not exactly sure what causes this achievement vs just doing the quest.

Hutta

Poison Pit Sign (Decoration) – Random drop from Dynamic Encounters on Hutta. Apparently it drops quite frequently from the akk dogs and the bounty hunter at the end of the Taking Advantage dynamic encounter.

A

Ord Mantell

Fire Barrel (decoration) – A player reported that these can drop quite frequently from Ord Mantel’s Dynamic Encounter called Inside Job (the stealth one). You’ll need to kill enemies during the encounter not just stealth by them.
