Top 10 Trooper Favorite Armors in SWTOR

Troopers are the embodiment of the Republic military’s highest aspirations and are the most advanced fighting force in the galaxy. They are equipped to face any foe in any environment, but it’s not their gear that makes them tough – no, wait, it’s definitely their armor that makes them awesome.

In this list I’ll be going through my top ten favorite trooper armors in Star Wars: The Old Republic, and how to get them. While reading, don’t forget that you can use the Outfitter to change the appearance of your armor without losing the stats of your equipment, so you can wear these awesome trooper sets without sacrificing any good armor you’ve picked up along the way. These armors are also not locked to just Troopers – you can wear most of them on any type of character.

#10 Suppression Trooper Armor Set

Suppression Trooper Armor Set

Imperial Troopers aren’t exactly troopers… but I’d kick myself if I didn’t get a chance to include them in this list! The Suppression Trooper Armor Set is by far the best Imperial Trooper set we’ve seen before, and dyes incredibly well with its metallic texture – so even if you’re not going over to the dark side, you can easily pop in any of the other classic trooper colors into the Suppression set for a really cool look. This set will set you back if you like it though – it’s a popular set and will be expensive either on the GTN or for Cartel Coins on the Cartel Market. The developers even like this set so much that it was the first set they previewed metallic dyes on before they were released!

Imperial Commando Armor Set

Imperial Commando Armor Set

The Imperial Commando Armor Set is a kind of updated version of the older Imperial Commando sets, and is similar to what you’ll see the Imperial Troopers wearing as they walk around the Fleet.

Imperial Trooper Armor Set

Imperial Trooper Armor Set

That’s the newest Imperial Trooper set, but the O.G. is the Imperial Trooper Armor Set, which you could originally only get if you bought the $150 Collector’s Edition from when the game came out, and was really the only way to get an Imperial Trooper set at the time. If you do like this old-school imp trooper set though, you can now actually pick it up these days with the Collector’s Edition Vendor Access Unlock. While it’s an older set, it’s still the best way to look like a full Old Republic Imperial Trooper squad if you decide to put it on all your companions.

Makeb Assault Armor Set

Makeb Assault Armor Set

Back in the day if you didn’t have the Collector’s Edition, you’ve have to instead sub in the Makeb Assault Armor Set, which is actually an outfit you can earn through the Makeb Reputation system.

#9 Voss Vanguard Armor Set

Voss Vanguard Armor Set

The Voss Vanguard Armor Set is super weird if you ‘re looking for something very different for your trooper! This set is trooper-shaped, but has unique voss-inspired markings all over it.

#8 Squad Leader Armor Set

Squad Leader Armor Set

If you’re looking for something really unique but that still screams ‘Trooper’, the Squad Leader Armor Set has one of the more intricate masks in the game – it’s a full gas mask, somewhat similar to what some aliens like the Gand would use to breathe inhospitable air. This black-and-yellow version can be purchased from the S3T-BNS Vendor by characters with a discipline in the Vanguard / Powertech / Commando / Mercenary combat style at a high level for Tech Fragments…

Remnant Dreadguard Trooper Armor Set

Remnant Dreadguard Trooper Armor Set

.. or, if you get lucky, the white-and-black Remnant Dreadguard Trooper Armor Set version is a randomized drop from the Military Equipment Locked Supply Crates you can start earning at level 61 from heroics – but once found, is legacy-bound and can be worn as early as level 10!  This style of armor was released shortly after the game’s launch, and was sometimes also known as Black Hole, Dread Guard, or Hazmat gear, and wearing it was proof you’d geared up quite a bit in the earlier days of the game!

Vandinite Asylum / Zakuulan Durasteel Asylum Armor Set

Vandinite Asylum / Zakuulan Durasteel Asylum Armor Set

I feel like I might get in trouble if I don’t at least mention this set so I’m going to sneak it in here – the Vandinite Asylum Armor Set has the same color pattern, but it’s a lot easier to get as it’s crafted by Armormechs who’ve reached Armormech level 520. It’s also the easiest-to-get-version of my iconic blue Academy armor set.

#7 Fitted Balmorran Durasteel Armor Set

Fitted Balmorran Durasteel Armor Set

I really love the classic low-level trooper armor shapes – and there are quite a few rare and uncommon ones you can find out there. The Fitted Balmorran Durasteel Armor Set is a really neat chrome-colored trooper set with aqua lighting! Fitted sets are fairly easy to get – they drop randomly throughout the world as you play, and if you want specific pieces, they are often not too expensive on the GTN – you just might have to watch it over time for some of the more uncommon pieces.

Fitted SoroSuub Molytex Armor Set

Fitted SoroSuub Molytex Armor Set

The Fitted SoroSuub Molytex Armor Set is a similar shape, but has a deep dark indigo-blue color.

Fitted Balmorran Blastguard MKII Armor Set

Fitted Balmorran Blastguard MKII Armor Set

And if you want a good camouflaged set, the Fitted Balmorran Blastguard MKII Armor Set is a great dark green color.

#6 Crystalline Demolisher MK-3 Armor Set

Crystalline Demolisher MK-3 (Republic) (BoE) Armor Set

When I started digging into rare older armors, this was one of my favorites that I found! The Crystalline Demolisher MK-3 Set is a bit hard to find and is a rare drop from heroics or flashpoints – but it is Binds on Equip, so you can sometimes find it on the GTN if you look for it over time!

#5 Frontline Scourge Armor Set

Frontline Scourge Armor Set

The Frontline Scourge Armor Set is actually one of my favorites for my main character right now – it mixes and matches really well with other trooper pieces, has a really nice gray-blue default color, and has some nice weathering details on the chestpiece – I usually swap out the helmet though. This is a cartel set, so check the GTN or the Cartel Market for it.

Defiant Asylum MK-26 (Armormech) (Republic) Armor Set

Defiant Asylum MK-26 (Armormech) (Republic) Armor Set

If you’re looking for a neat slim armored set similar to Frontline Scourge, a really neat uncommon armor set is the Defiant Asylum MK-26 Armor Set which is crafted by Armormechs who have reverse-engineered the schematic to learn how to craft it. This set can be crafted on either side, but will look like this weathered gray version only on the Republic side, so check the GTN or ask a friend to learn how to craft it for you!

Yavin Boltblaster / Demolisher MK-3 (Republic) (BoE) Armor Set

Yavin Boltblaster / Demolisher MK-3 (Republic) (BoE) Armor Set

Another really nice weathered set is the Yavin Boltblaster / Yavin Demolisher MK-3 Armor Set, which is another rare drop from heroics or flashpoints – and is also Binds on Equip, so you can sometimes find it on the GTN.

#4 Ciridium Asylum Armor Set

Ciridium Asylum / Mandalorian Iron Asylum Armor Set

Going back to the classics, the Ciridium Asylum Armor Set is a really great looking set that can easily be crafted by Armormechs!

TD-17A Colossus Armor Set

TD-17A Colossus Armor Set

If you’d like an even easier to get version, or like the color orange, the TD-17A Colossus Armor Set can be picked up from the Adaptive Vendor on the Republic Fleet for just 2,500 Credits – and you can wear it as early as level 1 once you picked it up, as it is legacy-bound! Why they put such a good looking set on such an inexpensive vendor, we’ll never know, but you might as well enjoy it!

Diatium Onslaught Armor Set

Diatium Onslaught Armor Set

If you’re looking for something similar, there’s also the Diatium Onslaught Armor Set which is bright banana yellow but has a different chestpiece pattern and helmet, and is also easy to craft by Armormechs. Don’t forget to try out different dyes on these – single-colored armors often dye really well even with inexpensive dyes.

#3 Concentrated Fire Armor Set

Concentrated Fire Armor Set

The Concentrated Fire Armor Set was originally an impressive set of high-end max-level gear called Kell Dragon… but now you can get it at level 75 with Tech Fragments! It has some really cool glowing elements and textures.

Remnant Underworld Trooper Armor Set

Remnant Underworld Trooper Armor Set

If you like the shape but not the colors, the Remnant Underworld Trooper Armor Set is a random drop from the Military Equipment Locked Supply Crates from heroics, and has a red-and-white color scheme instead.

#2 Tactical Infantry Armor Set

Tactical Infantry Armor Set

I love this set! It was one of the first sets I paid to unlock for all my characters with cartel coins in collections, and is a cartel item you can find on either the GTN or the Cartel Market.  The Tactical Infantry Armor Set combines classic trooper armor with glowing elements and bonus heads-up-display when you take out your weapon.

Galvanized Infantry Armor Set

Galvanized Infantry Armor Set

.. and the Galvanized Infantry Armor Set is gray, yellow and aqua colored. You can also get the Energized Infantry set, which is the white and orange, but doesn’t have the cool heads up special effect display – of all three of these glowing armors, only the Tactical Infantry set has that.

#1 Reforged Havoc Squad Armor Set

Reforged Havoc Squad (with Backpack) Armor Set

The Reforged Havoc Squad Armor Set is my new favorite armor set, and I’ve been wearing it often on my Trooper character. The red parts dye really nicely if you want to swap them out, and the set comes with a version with the backpack and iconic pizza slice, and a version without.

Havoc Squad Armor Set

Havoc Squad Armor Set

There’s also the original Havoc Squad Armor Set available, but this older version’s pizza slice is mandatory. While I’ve always loved the version we get to see in the trailers, I’ve never really liked the original Havoc Squad set you could get for your character, so I was really excited to see an updated set become available.

I hope you enjoyed this list of my top ten favorite trooper armors in the game!

This is an updated version of my original list – and includes all kinds of interesting obscure armors I’ve discovered since then, and some of the newer sets that have been added to the game, but if you want to discover more armors, explore the original top ten list!
