SWTOR European Payment Problems – “General Error” and “An error has occurred while trying to process your request. Please, try again later.” – Missing OTP (One time password)

If you are from certain Nordic countries or use specific European banks you may find that you are unable to subscribe to SWTOR as you get this error on swtor.com when you try to subscribe:

“General Error: An error has occurred while trying to process your request. Please, try again later.”

The error doesn’t give you much more information, but is likely due to the fact that certain banks now require additional authentication for purchases online in the form of a One-time Password (OTP) but the SWTOR.com website never asks for the one-time password, so the payment gets declined automatically by your bank.

How to Fix

Unfortunately, the only real solution is for SWTOR to add the one-time password authentication to their website.

In the mean time, you should be able to purchase a subscription through:

• pay with Paypal instead
• purchase through Steam instead (even if you don’t have the game fully downloaded on Steam, just link your SWTOR and Steam accounts)
• purchase a time card on Amazon, which gives you a code you can apply to your account
• have a friend purchase you an Amazon time card in their country, and have them send you the code
