SWTOR Ventures Guide

If you ever wanted to play Star Wars: The Old Republic in a more difficult mode, you’ll be able to starting in 8.0! Classic and Expert mode are being added to the Ventures system with unique rewards attached to running a dedicated character through all types of content on both Veteran Mode and Master Mode difficulty, including the class stories, planetary arcs, heroics, and more! 8.0 is planned for release at the end of 2026.

How to Start

To start a new Classic Venture, choose Classic or Expert when you go to create a character (rather than the Full Campaign, which is what you would pick for a normal new character.)

Ventures are only available to subscribers. Free-to-play players will not be able to start venture characters, and preferred players will not be able to continue playing any venture characters they have made until they re-subscribe.

When you go to create a Classic or Expert Venture character you will notice that you only have two options for your Combat Style. In the normal game, you have a lot more options, but these were the two options available at the launch of the game, and during a Classic Venture, you’ll only be able to pick between those two styles.

Ventures

Once you have created your Classic Venture character, you can open your Legacy Panel (N key on your keyboard by default), and select your new character in Classic Ventures, which will be on the menu on the left under Ventures.

After selecting your character, you can then see the objectives to complete!

Gold Enemies

As you play your venture character, keep your eyes open for unique glowing gold enemies scattered around the map. All enemies have a chance of dropping special venture-only items, but golden glowing enemies have a higher chance of giving you special buffs, venture currency, or challenge items.

Venture Buffs

While playing, keep an eye on your inventory! In addition to the normal gear, credits, or other randomized loot you would get from enemies, you can also get venture-specific items to use on your venture character. These include challenge items, grenades, and treasure finding gear. See the Classic Venture Items Buffs, Boosts, and Grenade Preview on the PTS (Public Test Server) guide to see what they do.

Classic Ventures

Creating a SWTOR Classic Venture character sends you on a journey to complete a variety of objectives meant to evoke the classic game experience, all while playing on the Veteran Mode difficulty.

Objectives

These are some of the objectives, which can vary by class:

  • Play the original Era (your three Class Story Chapters plus the Ilum arc)
  • Complete the planetary arcs
  • Earn and level up three crew skills
  • Defeat the original story Flashpoints
  • Earn your companions and level their influence
  • Do some on rails space missions
  • Complete Dynamic Encounters
  • Gear up to specific item-levels
  • Run the level-50 daily areas
  • Explore specific areas
  • Craft items and gather materials from nodes
  • Give gifts to your companion
  • And more…

The idea is to create an experience where you would do everything you would have when the game launched for the first time 15 years ago.

Expert Ventures

Creating a SWTOR Expert Venture character is for players looking for the greatest test of their skill into endgame, all while playing on the Master Mode difficulty.

These are some of the potential objectives:

  • Explore the galaxy
  • Defeat rare and named enemies
  • Complete Heroics and Dailies
  • Make it into recent Eras and / or areas at level 80+
  • And more…

Unlike the Classic Venture, the Expert Venture is for players looking to test themselves across the galaxy, especially as you go further in to the game.

Expert Gear

If you would like to work on the Expert Ventures on their Master Mode difficulty but aren’t quite there yet when it comes to skill level, there will be ways to earn special gear in the Classic Venture / Veteran Mode that can help you in the harder Master Mode. The goal is for the ventures to be something that everyone can eventually gain access to and complete over time.

Rewards

At the moment, the developers have not revealed what the new rewards will be, and they are not on the Public Test Server. The developers have said there will be 16 unique sets of rewards, 1 for each class for each venture type (Classic and Expert), plus overarching meta rewards for completing everything.

Gear

As you play ventures, you may find you need to keep your gear more up to date than you would when playing the normal version of the game. Here’s some of the ways you can get gear while levelling.

Modification Vendors

You can buy upgrades for your gear every five levels or so on the Fleet in the Supplies section. You will want to buy a full modifiable set of gear, offhand and mainhand weapon from the Adaptive Vendor, then set a modification in every empty slot of that Adaptive gear. At the time of making this, there are modifications available for sale at level 10, 14, 18, 22, 26, 30, 34, 38, 42, 48, 52, 56, 60, 65, and 70 if you need them. You can modify moddable gear by CTRL+RIGHT CLICKING the item then dragging the modifications into it. If you are not sure which pieces to buy, get the red-colored ones for easiness sake. This type of gear is green-bordered, and the most basic type of gear you can get for your level range.

Heroics and Conquest Gear

From levels 1-60, a great way to get gear is by running heroics or completing conquest each week. Heroics will grant you two random pieces of gear for your level range, and completing conquest will grant you five pieces of gear. This type of gear is known as Blue MK-2 gear, or Heroic reward gear.

Some heroics offer two boxes to “choose” from, the armor looks the same either way though, it’s just a tank/dps stat choice. Pummeler, Duelist and Demolisher are for tanks, so you don’t need to choose those while levelling.

Flashpoint Gear

Flashpoints are also a great place to get gear, including some of the best gear you can get for your level range, the purple-bordered MK-3 gear which can also be bought and sold on the GTN. Flashpoint Guides

Crafted Gear

Crafted gear has the widest variety of items available, and doesn’t really on random drops from boxes or enemies.

GTN

You can also often find gear on the GTN, though it is often quite expensive. If you search for Armor – Adaptive Armor, then put in a level range, say a few levels below your current level up to your current level, you’ll see a mix of crafted gear and a MK-3 that players got from Heroics or Flashpoints as lucky drops that they decided to sell. How to Use the GTN Guide

It depends a lot on what your exact level is, but for the most part, the crafted purple gear is almost on par with the expensive MK-3 stuff near the same level, so you might as well get the less expensive crafted gear if you see it for sale or can craft it for yourself.

Level 70 – Ossus

You can get Level 70 gear from a vendor on the planet Ossus for Credits. These pieces cost 20,000 credits each an you can get every piece you need form this vendor including your relics, earpiece and implants.

For some extra credits, you can also upgrade this gear at the nearby Masterwork vendor.

There is technically some level 70 modifications from the Supplies section of the fleet but these have worse stats and are more expensive than the Ossus gear pieces.

There are some purple Traitor Among the Chiss augments available at level 70, though I do not know if they will actually help you in combat due to the way level sync works.

Level 75 – Tacticals

At Level 75 you can start equipping Tacticals, a type of item that goes in a new specific slot on your gear sheet. They are expensive at 3,000 Tech Fragments and 1 million credits, so feel free to skip working on earning one until you reach level 80.

At level 75+, you can start getting Tech Fragments from completing Conquest, but there are not many other ways to get them on a low-level character compared to earning Tech Fragments on a max-level character.

Level 75 – Spoils of War

The Spoils of War Vendor in Supplies section of Fleet for Level 75 gear, it costs 325-450 Tech Fragments per piece.

At level 75+, you can start getting Tech Fragments from completing Conquest, but there are not many other ways to get them on a low-level character compared to earning Tech Fragments on a max-level character.

The other way you might get Tech Fragments is by deconstructing other pieces of level 75 gear you come across that you don’t need, like green-bordered or blue-bordered versions of items you already have.

It’s an awkward situation – the best level 75 gear you can get is hard to get at level 75 – this happened when level 80 became the new max level, and mostly only level 80 quests reward Tech Fragments now.

You’ll also be able to pick up very basic level 75 gear from flashpoints bosses while in the level 75-79 range. Heroics unfortunately reward cosmetic gear rather than useful gear at this point.

Above: my sad mish-mash of level 70 and 75 gear because that’s all I could get.

Ossus Vendors – Level 70

If you don’t have tech fragments yet, you can get Level 70 gear from a vendor on Ossus for Credits – there’s no way to buy level 75 gear for credits.

There are some blue level 73 and purple level 75 craftable augments available for level 75 players, though I do not know if they will actually help you in combat due to the way level sync works.

Medpacs

Medpacs allow you to heal yourself even during combat. You will often pick up medpacs from enemies as you play, or can buy them from Stims Vendors or Medical Droids, who will show you medpacs appropriate for your level range. Medpacs can be used at any level, but only scale “up to” a certain level – so you want to use ones close to the level you are on the planet you are currently on. For example, if you are level 30, but are on the very first planet which scales you down to level 12, you could save money and use a Common medpac instead of a high-level one.

To get the most health, you ideally want to use the medpac that scales up closest to or over your current level on the planet you are playing on, with either a blue or purple border. Better medpacs are crafted by players with the Biochem crew skill, but can be used by anyone, except for the special gold-bordered reuseable versions, which can only be used by Biochemists. Medpacs heal just you, and Med Units heal you and your companion. Crafted Medpacs Guide

Stims

Stims give you a semi-permanent boost in combat which lasts 60 minutes. You can only have one stim active at a time, and they are each one-use. You can buy them from Stims Vendors or Medical Droids, who will show you stims appropriate for your level range. Most stims can be used at any level, but only scale “up to” a certain level – so you want to use ones close to the level you are on the planet you are currently on. For example, if you are level 30, but are on the very first planet which scales you down to level 12, you could save money and use a basic stim instead of a high-level one.

The Daily Login Rewards give you some small stacks of very powerful stims.

Biochem crafters can also make stims.

Adrenals

Adrenals give you an extremely short boost in combat which lasts 15 seconds, and then can’t be used again for 3 minutes. Unlike medpacs and stims, you can not buy adrenals from vendors – they can only be crafted by Biochemists. Due to their cost and one-use boost, Adrenals are generally only used for difficult high-level fights – but at a low level, they may give you the edge you need to pass a difficult venture fight.
