Lómax’s look is based on the character Monsieur Paul Regret from the movie “The Commancheros.” (1961)

The look typifies the “Southern Dandy Gentlemen” of the westerns of the 1950’s and 1960’s.

Monsieur Paul Regret was a Louisiana gentleman and gambler, who shot a judge’s son in a duel, then goes on the run to Texas. Jake Cutter (played by John Wayne) hunts him down, and after a series of events which show Monsieur Regret to be a good man, he is deputized to be a Texas Ranger, and becomes the partner of Jake Cutter.
