SWTOR Companion Customizations Guide

Companion Customizations are a type of item that allow you to change the way your companion looks in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Customizations are usually different than your companion’s outfit – they usually instead change your companion’s hair, skin color, or hair color, making them look very different than their default look. Companion Customizations can be gotten while questing, from vendor across the galaxy, from special events, and from the Cartel Market or GTN.

How to Use a Companion Customization

Once you have a companion customization in your inventory, to use it, you must first open your Character Sheet (default ‘C’ key on your keyboard) and then click the Companion tab at the top. Once you are on the Companion tab, you can right-click the customization from your inventory to equip it to your companion.

The companion you want to equip it to must be available and out beside you – if your companion isn’t with you, companion tab will be greyed out and not clickable. If your companion was with you, but has wandered away, use the tiny arrow on the bottom left of your screen beside the empty companion portrait to re-summon them.

If that circular empty portrait is missing, or you have the wrong companion out, open the Companions & Contacts window (default ‘C’ key on your keyboard) and you can summon your companion using the tiny arrow beside their name on the list.

The slot to equip the customization is a circle segmented into three parts, and is usually located under the companion’s equipment.

Your companion may or may not already have a customization equipped. Some companions can not wear equipment, and only have a customizations lot – their gear and outfit is instead changed by their customization.

What customizations are available for my companion?

Across the entire game’s companions, there is over 400 companion customizations you can get! Each companion has a different number of customizations, with many of the first companions having around nine to choose from, and many of the later companions have none or only one or two.

You can see every customization and how to get it on my SWTOR Companion Customizations page!

For example, Kira, a Jedi Knight companion, has her default look, 5 looks you can pick up either through questing or from vendors on different planets, one customization you can get for using a security key, two customizations from the cartel market, and one special weird customization from the Rakghoul Event.
