SWTOR Red Reaper Flashpoint Guide

The Red Reaper is a Flashpoint in Star Wars: The Old Republic that you can play with friends, or with other random players through the groupfinder.

The Red Reaper

In the century before the Sith Empire’s return to the known galaxy, the powerful Sith Lord Ikoral was among the Emperor’s most honored servants. Ikoral, himself a Sith Pureblood, believed in the genetic superiority of pureblooded Sith and became obsessed with discovering other Purebloods that fled from Korriban centuries ago. Over time Ikoral convinced the Dark Council to allow him to search for these lost Sith, and he set off with an expeditionary fleet. Seventy years have passed. Darth Ikoral has returned from his expedition with an army of mad Sith, and has begun a campaign to purify the galaxy of those he deems as unworthy. Having already laid waste to an Imperial fortress at the edge of the galaxy, Ikoral now sets his sights on the Republic-controlled world of Chandrila. While the Republic scrambles to defend their world, the Empire plots its revenge against Ikoral for his betrayal. Both factions now assemble elite groups of their strongest warriors to board his flagship and defeat Ikoral once and for all.

How to Start

The Red Reaper is a Flashpoint meant to be played at almost any time during your levelling or story path, and isn’t a big part of the main story line. You can encounter it in the story part way through your class story, or play it outside of the story with a group in Veteran or Master mode.

Use the tabs above for instructions for how to enter the flashpoint in the story line, and how to enter it in Solo (Story) mode, Veteran mode, and Master mode by faction.

  • Story: No “story” version available.
  • Solo: No “solo” version available.
  • Veteran: Lvl 15-80
  • Veteran Groupfinder: Lvl 41-80
  • Master Mode: Lvl 50-80 †
  • Master Mode Groupfinder: Lvl 80

Story/Solo – Republic Instructions

Unfortunately, there is no story or solo version of the The Red Reaper Flashpoint. You can watch the very short introductory cutscene by yourself, but without a group, you likely won’t be able to finish the Flashpoint in any of its available modes.

The Red Reaper has a Veteran mode, which is designed for 4 players level 15-80. However, if you are higher level, and have a higher skill level, gear level, and companion influence level, you may be able to run the entire Flashpoint solo with some patience and practice. Otherwise, you will need to run this Flashpoint with a group you put together in general chat, or through the group finder.

To learn more about where to pick up the introductory quest to see the start of the story, or to learn how to run it through the groupfinder, see the other tabs.

How to see the Introductory Quest Solo

Step 1 – On the Republic Fleet, take the eastern elevator to the Dropship Launch Hangar level

Step 2 – Pick up the quest from the terminal on the Dropship Launch Hangar level

If you are level 80, it will give you the option to choose between Veteran and Master. If you are below level 80, you will automatically be given then Veteran mode quest.

You next options are:

  • head on inside the nearby colorful door for The Red Reaper and try to solo it even though it is designed for 4 players
  • put together a group in general chat to run The Red Reaper
  • try to run The Red Reaper through the group finder
  • drop the quest for now, and come back later with a group or when you are more confident that you can solo it

Veteran – Republic Instructions

The Red Reaper has a repeatable 4-player Veteran version. It is meant to be completed by a group with any type of Republic characters in it, you do not necessarily need a tank or healer to complete it. You will likely also have good luck with 2 players and 2 companions, or 3 players and 1 companion.

Group Finder: If you want to queue up and enter The Red Reaper in veteran mode through the group finder, you will need to be level 41-80 and not currently on any The Red Reaper Flashpoint quests or it won’t show up as an option in the group finder. If you are level 41-80, click the icon of “three little people” on the bottom right of your screen which will open the Activity Finder Window. Then choose the Group tab in the Activity Finder.

Filter: If you want to specifically run The Red Reaper and not a random Flashpoint, make sure to choose Veteran Flashpoints, then click the Filter button the right and narrow your choices down to just The Red Reaper before pressing Join Queue. Bosses

This Flashpoint has three boss fights – Lord Kherus, the Sv-3 Eradicator Droid and Darth Ikoral.

In Veteran Mode when you have multiple players you can use the medpacs scattered around the bosses. Right-click them to heal yourself.

The following boss info is mainly for story and Veteran mode – Master Mode tactics are not covered in this guide. However I do have a guide on Soloing Master Mode Red Reaper!

Lord Kherus

The first boss is Lord Kherus, the red-skinned Sith with prisoners kneeling on the ground.

This is the easiest of the three fights. you can ignore the mechanics if you want and just hit the boss with your lightsaber if you want. Otherwise, if you see a red circle, you can try staying out of it, and when he jumps to the center of the room near the kneeling prisoners, you can interrupt him.

Master Mode: This fight is the same in Master Mode.  When he jumps to the center of the room near the kneeling prisoners, you will need to interrupt him as he casts. Skilled players set their companion to damage for this fight to breeze through it quickly, even when running Master Mode alone.  Video: How to Solo Master Mode Red Reaper

Sv-3 Eradicator Droid

The second boss is the Sv-3 Eradicator droid on the command bridge surround by six red and blue pillars.

Much like the previous boss, this boss is very easy and you can ignore the mechanics entirely in Veteran mode.

I would however put your back facing to one of the pillars in the room, as the boss will do a knock-back – it will keep you close to the boss.

Master Mode: When the boss does his laser beam attack, it will be bolstered by the amount of pillars that are the same color. If all pillars are the same color, a single blast will almost kill you. You can change the pillar color by clicking on the base of the pillars. The droid will reset the pillars throughout the fight, and there’s a small audio cue when it happens. When he blasts, you can choose to…

a) set the pillars to half one color and half the other color to mitigate the damage

b) just click one pillar and use a defensive cooldown.

Video: How to Solo Master Mode Red Reaper

Solo Master Mode Tips: If you are on a concealment operative or scrapper scoundrel, you can actually roll during the last second of the laser beam cast to avoid the damage completely. If you are on a shadow or assassin, you can put points in to the Emersion utility which will allow you to not be slowed during the fight when you use Force Speed to make it easier to click the pillars. If you are good with the pillars or rolling out of the laser beams, you may be able to set your companion to damage instead of healing for this fight. The rest of the fight make sure to put your back facing the ship wall as the droid does frequent knockbacks. All the stealth classes have a nice ability that lets them teleport back to the boss from far away, so make good use of this when moving around or if you get knocked back.

Darth Ikoral

The final boss, Darth Ikoral, in the big red room, is difficult, due to his mechanics. You will need to know what your INTERRUPT ability is.

The fight will start with him in the center of the room. At 80% health, Darth Ikoral will make two scantily clad sith ladies appear, one on either side of the room. Darth Ikoral will start shooting lightning from his hands at a random player. Your goal is to instead get one of these ladies caught in the lightning. Your entire group run to the side of the room and hide behind a Sith lady, so the lightning hits her instead.

Wait there and once Darth Ikoral is shooting lightning at her, you’ll be able to interrupt her cast. Then run to the other side of the room once you’ve defeated her by interrupting her. Once you finish a sith lady on each side, you’ll run back to the boss, and repeat!

Veteran Mode Solo: At 80% health, Darth Ikoral will make two scantily clad sith ladies appear, one on either side of the room. Darth Ikoral will start shooting lightning from his hands at either you or your companion. Your goal is to instead get one of these ladies caught in the lightning. In the normal 4-person flashpoint, you would have your entire group run to the side of the room and hide behind a Sith lady, so the lightning hits her instead. However when playing solo, you’ll need to control your companion by setting them to passive, which will force them to follow you. To set your companion to passive, look near their companion portrait in the bottom left corner of your screen and press the blue icon of crossed arms. To position your passive companion, run all the way through the lady, so you are a bit of a ways past her. This will usually get your companion behind the lady, instead of accidentally just standing in front of her.

Veteran Mode Solo: Once you get in position, you need to wait for these two things to happen: First – Darth Ikoral needs to be shooting lightning, and Second – the Sith lady needs to be casting. When both are true, and you are 100% sure you and your group/companion are all the way behind her, interrupt the lady. Wait a moment to make sure it worked – if it did, she will start shaking around. If it did not work and she goes back to casting, you will need to wait for your interrupt and try again. Once you complete the first lady, you will run to the other side of the room with your passive companion and do the exact same thing for the second lady. Your interrupt may not be ready yet, so just wait until it is. You can set your companion to active so they can either attack or heal again after the Sith Ladies. He’ll repeat the phase with the Sith Ladies again later in the fight – set your companion back to passive and repeat!

Master Mode: The final boss is difficult, due to his mechanics and his enrage. At about 5 minutes in to the fight, he will enrage, and will very likely kill your companion and then you shortly after that happens, so it’s important to squeeze in as much damage as possible before that happens, by maximizing your character’s damage output and doing the mechanics as perfectly as possible to not waste precious seconds.

Master Mode Positioning: The fight will start with him in the center of the room. You have two options to start the fight – you can fight him near where he starts, just pulling him backwards some close to the ramp so he doesn’t knock your group/companion off in to the abyss, or start the fight from the back of the room and drag him around the pillar back there. Many players recommend bringing him to the back, because if you are lucky, it will help you avoid one of the annoying mechanics of the fight called Zealots as they will spawn near the front of the room and may not see you at all. Personally I had more luck in the standard front of the room.

Video: How to Solo Master Mode Red Reaper

Master Mode Solo Tips: During the first part of the fight, you will just be attacking him, to try and make him reach 80% health. This is a very good time to use heroic moment at the immediate start of the fight, as if you are slow at DPS it might be available again at the very end during his enrage. At 80% health, the next phase will start. Darth Ikoral will make two scantily clad sith ladies appear, one on either side of the room. Darth Ikoral will start shooting lightning from his hands at either you or your companion. Your goal is to instead get one of these ladies caught in the lightning. You’ll need to to complete the two sith ladies with your companion just like in Veteran mode.

Master Mode Zealot: Here’s the part where it gets obnoxious. Darth Ikoral may or may not spawn another enemy called the Zealot. The Zealot usually spawns near the front of the room. She will cast an ability that roots you to the floor, not allow you to move, which will prevent you from properly attacking her, getting to the ladies, or getting to the boss. You’ll want to kill the Zealot as soon as possible to free your friends. If you don’t move through this whole phase quickly, Darth Ikoral will just keep spawning more and more Zealots, so you’ll want to defeat the Zealot quickly and go behind your two ladies as fast as possible.

Master Mode Solo Zealot Tips: The first thing you can do is click her then click your companion’s “attack” ability, which takes them off passive and insutrcts them to damage the target. You can also then try and teleport and attack her. Lastly, if you are 10 meters or less away from her, you can interrupt her which will allow you to run up and attack her. After the Zealot and the Sith Ladies, you’ll rush back to the boss, and try and damage him down to 60% as fast as you can.

Master Mode: At 60%, he’ll start the next phase, and glowing red orbs will appear around the room. The more of these you collect, the less damage you take, up to a max of 4.

Master Mode Solo Red Orbs Tip: I was able to collect about three with just enough time to teleport back, if you are dying lots maybe get a fourth, if you are not dying collect less. He will then start attacking both you and your companion, flipping back and fourth quickly. This is the part of the fight that I kept dying at – he kept attacking and killing my companion. Although you can’t prevent him from attacking your companion, you can do your best to keep your own health up and use your defensive abilities so that your companion can use its healing powers to keep itself alive. If you can manage to survive this phase, at 40% he’ll go do the thing with the lightning ladies again, and at 20% he’ll do a final round with the red orbs. If you’re a less skilled player, at this point, he might hit his five minute enrage, and practically one-shot you or your companion. If this is happening, it means you need to find a way to up your damage. In my case, I needed to do the mechanics with the ladies better to waste less time, and really focus on my DPS abilities and how they play off of eachother.

Master Mode

Master Mode Red Reaper is almost exactly the same as Veteran Mode Red Reaper, except for these differences:

  • The enemies are stronger and have more health
  • The first boss is the same, but it’s more improtant to interrupt him
  • The second boss, the droid, makes it more improtant to deal with the Red/Blue mechanic
  • The final boss, Darth Ikoras, adds the Zealots and red orbs to the fight that can make it a step up in difficulty
  • There is no bonus boss / bonus quest in any mode

Dark/Light Choice

Partway through the Flashpoint, you’ll activate the Cryogenics console, giving you two choices:

  • Leave the Console, light-side: Nothing will happen, and you can continue the Flashpoint.
  • Release the Sith: You’ll free the cryogenic Sith and fight them.

Crew Skills

Having certain crew skills allow you and your group to skip enemies or get a boost during Red Reaper!

Lost Cultural Artifact – Archaeology

If you happen to have Archaeology or higher, on the very first map of the Red Reaper flashpoint, before the elevator room, on the left, there’s a room that has a crate with an artifact in it that will reduce incoming damage with a buff called Veil of the Ancients.

There’s another similar item after the second boss, on the left side of the two droids guarding the elevator.

Previously required Archaeology level 250, now only requires Archaeology level 1.

Broken Elevator Generator – Scavenging

If someone in your group has Scavenging, you can start up this elevator here that gets you up onto the catwalks above this room. From here you’ll see a path to a 2nd floor room that leads to the exit, eventually, via a ramp. NOBODY GOES THIS WAY. If someone in your group activates this elevator, you will use it to get higher, and then jump over the side towards a large imperial tank with treads in the middle of this cargo area: this might look like you’re only skipping three silver-level droids at the beginning, but it sets you up for another very common community skip next.

Previously required Scavenging level 250, now only requires Scavenging level 1.

Broken Droid – Scavenging

On the second big map, after the long airlock hallway, a side room has a Broken Droid you can use Scavenging level 300 on to repair.

This will give you a Repaired Battledroid that will follow you around and fight for you until it dies. IMPORTANT! The droid does not know how to stealth, and does not respect personal space.

Previously required Scavenging level 300, now only requires Scavenging level 1.

Forcefield Controls – Archaeology

If you’ve got an Archeologist in the group, you can interact with this large sith holocron after clearing the sith off of it, and it’ll turn off the red ray shields ahead of you. This enables you to go straight across the area instead of through the catwalks on the right-hand path. This may or may not be faster, though, because without sleep darts there’s quite a few enemies in the central area. Groups will sometimes sleep dart the Disciples on the extremes of the platform so the group can run behind the statues and altars.

Previously required Archaeology level 300, now only requires Archaeology level 1.

Skips

What follows are a quick gallery of images depicting specific walking routes that may save you some time by avoiding enemies during the flashpoint – certain routes will be highlighted as the main “community routes” that you’ll probably see players in random activity-finder groups try to do – if you only practice one skip out of all of these, make it the community one! All of the following images are done without stealth or without a sleep dart/mind maze from a stealth character, so anyone can attempt them. If you fail to slip by unnoticed or see your team has attacked the enemies – always pull back from these routes and go back to help them defeat them! These may save time if everyone does them, but nothing makes a flashpoint slower than running ahead and not helping others to get out of combat again.

Solo Stealth: If you are playing Red Reaper alone and are on a Stealth character, you can skip all of the enemies except the bosses and the firs set of enemies in the first room.

NOTE: You’ll see almost every skip here is marked as community: Red Reaper is a very common Flashpoint for efficient grinding due to having well-known community routes through it.

Skip #1 – Community Route

Right off the hop upon starting Red Reaper you’re going to want to run straight to the right-hand wall and go behind the big storage box. Keep the next wall on your right and stick to it as you jump over some boxes and run behind a forklift to the doorway out of the hangar. Midway through behind the storage box you should enter combat – check your minimap! If you just see red dots in the hall up ahead and not in the hangar itself, you did it right and can advance to fight your first group of 3. If you see ANY red dots on your minimap from the “already fighting” guys in the hangar, your group will have to clear out the whole hangar to get out of combat.

Skip #2 – Community Route

This may not be quite as commonly done as the first skip, but many groups will still do it. After defeating the 3 hall guards that you can’t avoid getting out of the hangar, hang left and drop down near the wall-pillar. It’s very important to drop down as far left as you can on this ledge, as the Sith Purifier in the middle of the room will chain-aggro everyone else inside if you’re detected. If you aren’t though, you can run straight to the elevator at the back of the room.

Skip #3 – Crewskill Skip

Skip #4 – Community Skip

Now that you’re at the imperial tank (whether you used the elevator or not), you can advance a little further ahead towards the huge pack of droid enemies, but then take a sharp left turn at the pile of 3 crates near the tank. Between two shipping containers here is a gap wide enough for almost all characters (certain male body types may struggle) to walk through. Once you’re on the other end, head up the ramp.

Skip #5 – Community Skip

As you read this guide you should be getting a sense as to why Red Reaper is commonly regarded by the community as one of the FPs you would farm many times over if you needed something specifically from flashpoints – nearly the whole flashpoint community constantly skips a lot of enemies in this one! Simply run by the pillar on the right after ascending the ramp from skip 4 to get behind these three and to the next elevator.

Skip #6 – Community Skip

As you get out of the elevator, run ahead and jump up the computer consoles up ahead to get to the upper tier without tussling with any laser cannons. From here you can engage the 2nd boss immediately. Just be careful of it’s knockback attacks.

Skip #7 – Community Skip

After defeating the 2nd boss and trying to hit the override console, your objective updates to the opposite elevator supposedly guarded by a handful of enemies – you can run right past these enemies, aggro them, and get inside the elevator and wait them out – after a few seconds they give up. Guess that’s Ikoral’s personal elevator and they aren’t allowed in. In solo, or groups of 2 or 3, make sure everyone’s companions are set to passive so that they wait inside the elevator with you. Note that while this guide doesn’t cover sleep darts, but the pack outside the next elevator is a common place stealthers like using one.

Skip #8 – Crewskill Skip

If you’ve got an Archeologist in the group, you can interact with this large sith holocron after clearing the sith off of it, and it’ll turn off the red ray shields ahead of you. This enables you to go straight across the area instead of through the catwalks on the right-hand path. This may or may not be faster, though, because without sleep darts there’s quite a few enemies in the central area. Groups will sometimes sleep dart the Disciples on the extremes of the platform so the group can run behind the statues and altars.

Previously required Archaeology level 300, now only requires Archaeology level 1.

Rewards

In addition to the usual rewards of XP, credits, gear and end-game currency, The Red Reaper has the following rewards available.

The Shattered Sith Artifact drops from Red Reaper. I am unsure if this drops in any mode, but the player who reported it said they got it from the last boss, Darth Ikoral. It can also be bought and sold on the GTN.
