Gearing up at level 70 in Star Wars: The Old Republic can be a complicated process. There’s many different ways to get endgame gear, and each method has its own tips and tricks. In this video, I’ll be going over the fastest and easiest ways to get endgame level 70 gear. This video is for players who are already familiar with the basics of gearing – if you haven’t started your gearing journey yet, make sure to watch my other video called “Gearing up at Level 70” before we dig in to this guide.
- First off, to earn endgame level 70 gear, you really do need to be a subscriber. A majority of the ways to earn gear are locked behind a subscriber gate, and even the ability to wear purple-tier gear is locked behind the artifact tier unlock. The main ways to get gear involve the Galactic Command system, which is locked to subscribers, Operations, which are also locked to subscribers, PvP, which is not locked but requires command tokens which can only be earned through the Galactic Command system, and lastly crafting, which is going to be well out of the price range of preferred players.
If you are a subscriber, and you have lots of credits, the absolute easiest way to gear up is to find a crafter who will craft you a full set of 246 gear – it’s the second best tier of gear available in the game. The only downside to buying crafted gear is that it doesn’t come with a set bonus, and will set you back more than a few million credits.
If you aren’t a millionaire, you’ll be earning gear through either operations, pvp or Galactic command. No matter which way you do it, you’ll want to use a Command Boost item for extra command experience pointss often as possible. You can buy these boosts from the GTN from other players, from the cartel market, or you can buy them with command tokens.
You’ll also want to pick up as many of the Command Experience Legacy Character Perks as you can. Each one gives you a 2% boost, and you can unlock them in the “Character Perks” section of your legacy panel.
Once you start doing quests and activities at level 70, you’ll start earning CXP and Command Crates. If you have no gear yet, claim all gear with stats you get from command crates. Pull out the mods from any duplicate gear pieces you get and place them in your other pieces of gear to upgrade them. If you are already wearing some item rating 230 or higher gear, compare new Command Crate armor with what items you have, including the mods and set bonuses.Make sure to claim any CXP Boosts, Bonus CXP Consumables, and Command Tokens, and disintegrate the rest for more CXP, including any gear that is 100% useless to you even after checking the mods against your current gear!
As you open command crates, you can use Command Tokens that you get to buy item rating 230 gear from the supplies section of the fleet. This is considered tier 1 starter endgame level 70 gear, and is an awesome set of gear to get you started – it even comes with a set bonus!
If you don’t run group content, gearing up with gear from Galactic Command Crates and Command Tokens is going to be the primary way you gain gear. Operations and PvP will earn you gear fastest, but you will continue to gain gear from completing almost any other content through the Galactic Command system. High-CXP-earning activities include the daily repeatable quests like CZ-198, Oricon, Section X, Black Hole, Yavin IV, Ziost and Iokath, and other good CXP activities include Flashpoints, story chapters, and heroic quests. Eventually, as you level up your command level, command crates will start dropping tier 2, tier 3 and even tier 4 gear.
If you’re in to group content, running Operations will gain you more gear – and more command crates! Operations drop tier 2 gear and higher with an item rating of 236 and up, with the more difficult operations dropping tiers 3 and 4. If you win a piece of unassembled gear from operations, you can turn it in to vendors in the supplies section of the fleet.
If you enjoy PvP or Galactic Starfighter, PvP is the most efficient way to gain gear and upgrade your current gear using Unassembled Components, Through pvp, you can get tier 2 gear and higher, which is item rating 236. If you already have some endgame pieces, you may be able to turn them in along with the Unassembled Components you gain through pvp to upgrade your gear to tiers 3 and 4. Nice. These unassembled component vendors are located in the supplies section of the fleet.
Once you’ve picked up some legacy gear shells or some tier 4 earpieces, relics or implants, Augment your gear to give it a boost beyond what normal gear provides. The latest and greatest augments can be incredibly expensive, with each augment potentially costing over one million credits each. The goods news is there is an earlier tier of augments that is far more affordable, which is called Advanced Augment 45s that has an item rating of 228. If you’re looking to augment up your gear, I suggest buying a total of 14 “45” augments and 14 Augmentation Kit MK-10s. If you’re a rich crimelord, you can instead jump straight to the obscenely expensive Superior Augment 48s that have an item rating of 240.
And there you have it! If you’re a solo player, keep running solo content to get command crates and eventually you’ll start getting the best gear in the game. If you enjoy PvP, use those unassembled components you earn from matches, weeklies and dailies to buy and upgrade your gear, and if you run operations, enjoy the sweet sweet loot dropped from bosses. If you enjoy all three, you’ll be on a direct track towards quickly getting the best gear in the game.
I hope this gearing guide helped you get on the path to unlimited power, and as always, may the force, be with you!
