What are world drop armors?
World Drop armors are armors that would drop randomly from enemies in the game.
Why are they uncommon?
These pieces used to drop from enemies particularly before Update 4.0 when level-sync was introduced and all of the loot tables were adjusted to accommodate the higher chance that your character might be high-level but questing on a a low-level planet, but would not need the low-level gear that would normally drop there. After Update 4.0 these items are considered quite rare – they will occasionally drop from the odd enemy, but the most well-known source of these items is randomly dropped from World Bosses.
Many of these items have both a normal version that is Bind on Pickup and has a blue or orange bordered icon. Many of them also have versions with a purple bordered icon and the word [Prototype] in front of their name (even though they are Artifact-quality, they are from the launch of the game so the naming is awkward). These purple and blue versions are Binds on Equip, so they can be bought and sold on the GTN, often for high prices due to their scarcity and because some looks have not alternative way to get them. These purple-bordered versions of the items are often considered best-in-slot for levelling gear even many years down the road – not that you need strong gear to level these days, and you level so fast you will likely out-level your gear very quickly.
Crafted Pieces
There are also a few crafting schematics for a few of the pieces, which produce Bind on Equip versions, but which sets have them and which pieces are craftable is very limited. These particular crafted versions have blue-bordered icons, and the schematics will be listed in the Archive section of the Crew Skills list for players who can craft them, even though the schematics items are still floating around and technically available to be learned. Sometimes it’s just a random pair of boots, or helmet, or boots that can be crafted from a set.
Example
So for example, for the non-[Prototype] RD-13B Striker set: The Chest and Helmet are orange-bordered and Binds on Pickup. They could not be reverse-engineered and could not be crafted at all. The Belt, Boots, Greaves, Gauntlets and Vambraces are blue-bordered, and Binds on Equip. The Greaves, and only the Greaves, have a crafting schematic item that you can get to learn how to craft the greaves on your Armormech – both those graves and the schematic itself are also Binds on Equip. And lastly, there are the [Prototype] versions of all of those, which are purple-bordered and Binds on Equip. What is available and not available is quite chaotic and you may not be able to find full sets of these, but there are often look-alikes in the game available.
Extended Crafting Names
To make things even more confusing, I believe the blue-bordered crafted items schematics also had different versions of their names that no longer exist at all in the game, with different prefixes – there was the initial tier from the schematic with a blue-bordered icon, and when you reverse-engineered the crafted item, you could get a version that started with the word Critical, Redoubt or Overkill, each with different stats attached and a purple-bordered icon – these seem to no longer exist. Then, you could reverse-engineer that purple item to learn a bunch more stronger purple-bordered versions with prefix names including:
- Presence
- Leadership
- General
- Commander
- Tempest
- Veracity
- Rampart
- Fervor
- Exactitude
- Hawkeye
- Endowment
- Anti-Armour
- Expert
- Supremacy
- and Vehemence
as well as the word (Superior) at the end of the item.
Example Continued
So that crafted schematic pair of RD-13B Striker Greaves could be RE’d to learn the Critical RD-13B Striker Greaves, which could then be RE’d to learn Tempest RD-13B Striker Greaves (Superior). In addition to all that, if you got a critical chance when crafting, your crafted armor would get an Augment Slot, and would gain a suffix of (Exceptional) for greens, (Advanced) for blues, and (Mastercraft) for purples, so you might have wound up with Tempest RD-13B Striker Greaves (Superior) (Mastercraft).
What happened to those Extended crafting names?
The naming conventions were not always consistent, not were the stats, and there was a lot of things broken with the reverse-engineering of items in general. In 4.0, with the Surge stat being removed, and all the classes using a unified Mastery stat, the developers wiped the crafting slate clean and replaced the crafting list with what we have now – but anyone who has the old blue schematics can still craft them.
Planet Vendors
To add to the chaos of world armors even more, some of the helmets, gloves, pants, bracers, belts and boots can be found on various vendors around the galaxy. Which ones are and are not available is fairly random and inconsistent. These vendors are called the Specialty Vendors, and the developers re-purposed them to also sell some really cool Planetary armor for credits, but also left the old gloves/boots/helmets from the world drops there as well, often found at the bottom or the top of the long list of armors at the vendor.

Treasure Hunting
On top of all of that, there is a chance you can get these from Treasure Hunting boxes of various grades! These treasure boxes come from the Treasure Hunting crew skill, and can also be bought and sold unopened on the GTN.
I don’t have a comprehensive list, but I opened a couple hundred boxes of some of the grades, and did find out this information:
- Grade 4 Treasure Hunting Lockbox occasionally gave me World Drop items that were level 31
- Grade 7 Treasure Hunting Lockbox occasionally gave me World Drop items that were level 44
These were uncommon though, compared to getting Fitted Armor pieces or the randomized armor similar to Fitted Armors that has a green border.
Hardest to get pieces?
For many sets, I had the easiest time getting the chestpieces and helmets – I am guessing this is because people get them from the world bosses then sell them on the GTN as they do not need them for their high level characters. The other pieces I believe may come from low-level players picking them up off the ground and (smartly) selling them if they don’t want them, or from players opening Treasure Hunting boxes.
For some sets, I had a really hard or impossible time finding their boots and gloves.
For other sets, I really struggled or could not find their belts and bracers.

I had to physically go and collect all these pieces, so here’s some notes on which ones I had trouble finding or had to substitute in similar sets and color-match them.
- Avenger / Antagonist’s / Overseer / Strategist (Imperial): I was never able to find the belt, pants and helmet for this set. I subbed in Ablative Laminoid Leggings for pants imperial-side.
- Avenger / Antagonist’s / Overseer / Strategist (Republic): I was never able to find the belt, pants and helmet for this set. I ended up subbing in pieces from the Nar Shaddaa Knight Armor Set.
- Battlemind’s (Republic): This set was really hard to find pieces for – I managed to find at least one copy of the skirt and belt so I took screenshots of the Imperial version, but never found another copy to take screenshots of Republic side, so I subbed in Sentinel’s Leggings.
- Battlemind’s (Imperial): This set was really hard to find pieces for – I managed to find at least one copy of the skirt and belt so I took screenshots of the Imperial version, but never found another copy to take screenshots of Republic side.
- Fervent Battle / Fervent Combat / Sovereign Mind (Imperial): I was really hoping to find this set due to its unique coloring, but a copy of the helmet never showed up the entire time I was looking for it.
- Fervent Battle / Fervent Combat / Sovereign Mind (Republic): I was really hoping to find this set due to its unique black-and-white coloring, but a copy of the helmet never showed up the entire time I was looking for it.
- Harbinger’s / Battlelord’s (Imperial): I managed to only find a single copy of the skirt and belt for this set, so I subbed in with pieces of the Traditional Nylite crafted set. There is something strange about the color-matching for this helmet neckbrace, it appears bronze rather than red unless you unify.
- Harbinger’s / Battlelord’s (Republic): I managed to only find a single copy of the skirt and belt for this set, so I used it to take screenshots Republic side, so I’m missing the pieces Imperial side. I ended up subbing in and color-matching pieces from the Traditional Nylite crafted set.
- Primeval Exemplar’s (Republic): I only ever managed to find one single chestpiece of the Primeval Exemplar’s the entire time I was looking, which was disappointing due to its unique colors.

- Rumination (Imperial): I was really hoping to find this set due to its unique coloring, but a copy of the helmet never showed up the entire time I was looking for it.

- RD-02A Battle / TD-02A Battle (Republic): I couldn’t find a lot of the pieces, so I substituted with Fitted Huttese Pilot’s and color-matched.
- RD-04A Watchman / TD-04A Informant (Republic): No matter how hard I looked I never found this chestpiece on the GTN.
- RD-04A Watchman / TD-04A Informant (Imperial): No matter how hard I looked I never found this chestpiece on the GTN.
- RD-05A Sniper / TD-05A Marksman (Imperial): I only ever found 1 copy of the RD-05A Sniper / TD-05A Marksman belt and used it Imperial-side.
- RD-05A Sniper / TD-05A Marksman (Republic): I only ever found 1 copy of the RD-05A Sniper / TD-05A Marksman belt and used it Imperial-side.
- RD-07A Elite Watchman / TD-07A Dread Scout (Imperial): No matter how hard I looked I never found this chestpiece on the GTN.

- RD-12A Assault (Imperial): I had such a hard time finding the pieces for this set. I never found most of them.

- RD-13B Striker (Imperial): I never found the hat and bracers for this set. Imperial-side I colormatched Chanlon Onslaught Helmet.

- RD-14A Scout (Republic): I never found the bracers and belt for this set.
- TH-05A Operative (Imperial): I couldn’t find all the pieces, but substituted in TD-07A Panther pieces from the Adaptive vendor and colormatched.
- RD-05B Gunslinger / TD-05B Deadeye (Imperial): I wasn’t able to find all the pieces for this one, but there’s lots of similar sets like Polyplast Battle crafted you can get. No belt/bracers
- TH-07A Master Scoundrel (Imperial): I couldn’t find all the pieces, but substituted in TD-07A Scorpion pieces from the Adaptive vendor and colormatched.
- RD-03B Coordination / TD-03B Infiltrator (Imperial): I couldn’t find the helmet, so I used Plasteel Battle a crafted piece.
- RD-13B Striker (Imperial): I couldn’t find the helmet, so I used Chanlon Onslaught a crafted piece.
- RD-02A Battle / TD-02A Battle (Imperial): I had a lot of trouble finding the pieces for this set and only had the chest.
