Cathar Naming Rules

Although they have strong cultural traditions, the Cathar do not seem to have any canon naming rules or suggestions. The biggest examples we have of Cathar names are Juhani, Sylvar, and Crado. There are not very many named Cathar compared to other species, so it is harder to find a pattern or rule in their naming.

For this Cathar Name generator, these are the rules that I have used to generate names:

• Name Length: 5-8 letters for single names, 4-5 for first names and 5-8 for last names
• First & Last Name: Only about 25% of Cathars have a known last name
• Apostrophes: Very uncommon in Cathar names, at only 3% of names having an apostrophe - Ky'lee, Arl'Tokor, and Veran Gerr'oun
• Dashes: Very uncommon in Cathar names, at only 2% of names having a dash Fau-Kes which may be a joke name ('Focus'), and Dam-Powl
• Starting Letters: Only start with letters in the canon names list (A and N are the most common letters to start with)
• Other Letters: Generated based on how often letter combinations show up in the canon names list.
• Double Vowels: Fairly to see names with double vowels like ii or aa at only 8% of names like Jaadel and Riilna
• Consonants: Not a Cathar rule, but no more than two consonants at a time, so names like Andreaus and Yacommsa will not show up, though Cathar names with three consecutive consonants are uncommon

These are names of existing Cathar characters in Star Wars: The Old Republic and in other Star Wars media. These names likely can't be used in the character creator as they may be restricted, but you can use them as inspiration for your Cathar, and this is the list I use to pull information from for my Cathar name generator.
