<\/p>\nStar Fortresses are a type of solo or group content you can play at level 60+, as part of the Knights of the Fallen Empire expansion. They are similar to Flashpoints, but have some fun and unique features, their own storyline linked to the story of the expansion, unique rewards including six companions, tons of decorations, some really cool armor sets, and a batch of fun achievements to explore in both their normal Story mode and their more-difficult Heroic mode.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
This guide will go over how to start Star Fortresses, some tips on how to complete them, and all the interesting stuff there is to explore and earned related to these interesting adventures that are not part of the main story path.<\/p>\n
To start playing Star Fortresses, you must have completed Knights of the Fallen Empire<\/strong>, Chapter 9, which is part way through the third expansion, at around level 63 or higher.<\/p>\n If you meet the requirements, you can start Star Fortresses by going in to your Odessen base and find Miot Dengd<\/strong> in the northern hallway of your alliance base, who has a quest symbol over his head. Speak with him to start the story quest Battle for the Stars,<\/strong> which will then send you outside the base\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Can’t talk to Miot and he has no quest marker? Can’t enter your alliance base, even though you’ve completed Chapter 9? <\/strong>If you are currently re-playing a Chapter earlier than Chapter 9, or are currently partway through Chapter 9, you may not be able to talk to the quest giver, and he might be missing his quest marker. The easiest way to fix this is to leave your Odessen base by running out the door, opening your Chapters panel from the main menu, and launching Chapter 10, Anarchy in Paradise, then running back in.<\/em><\/p>\n The story quest will then send you outside the Odessen base to speak to either Lieutenant Marklo (Imperial-side) or Seargeant Ahkar (Republic-side).<\/p>\n You will only have the option to choose [Start Solo Mode] at first.<\/p>\n Then run down the hallway through the blue door.<\/p>\n Once you are inside the Star Fortress instance, inside the little shuttle room, look for\u00a0 glowing blue computer panel you can right-click, behind the pilot.<\/p>\n For your first Star Fortress, you can choose any<\/em> of the planets on the list, and you can do the rest later.<\/p>\n Once you’ve picked a planet, you can actually start the Star Fortress after you finish flying there by right-clicking the shuttle door behind you.<\/p>\n From here on out, it’s like a regular Flashpoint – just follow the quest markers and make your way towards the final boss at the end! If you need help inside the Star Fortress, I’ve got tips for both the Skytrooper Praetorian<\/a> boss fight and the EPHEMERIS<\/a> boss fight.<\/p>\n After completing your first Star Fortress, return to Miot inside your Odessen base to learn about the Exarchs and Resistance Fighters.<\/p>\n Press N on your keyboard or open your Companions & Contact list from the main menu under the quest icon.<\/p>\n You’ll see 6 Alliance Alerts related to the Resistance (and likely some other unrelated ones too).<\/p>\n Feel free to pick any one of them, and then click the big Travel to Alert Location button under it. It does not matter what order you do them in.<\/p>\n Once you arrive, speak to your Resistance Fighter.<\/p>\n This short mission will reward you with some locked supply crates, which is great because you’ll need them later!<\/p>\n Hole on to the locked supply crates, you’ll need them later!<\/p>\n After speaking to your Resistance Fighter, you’ll get a new quest to investigate the Shield Bunker on that planet – follow your map markers to get there.<\/p>\n Look for the icon of three curved lines, stand on it, and face the direction the lines are growing towards.<\/p>\n Then use your Reconnaissance Scanners by left-clicking the icon in your quest log, or right-click the item from the Mission tab of your Inventory.<\/p>\n Look around by moving your mouse, and look for the glowing bunker which may be up high or down low – if your scanners circle turns orange, you\u2019ve found the bunker, so left click and wait to zoom in and scan it. Press ESC on your keyboard once you have scanned the bunker to exit. Stay away from the big turrets!<\/p>\n Nearby, there will be a glowing blue transmitter. Stay away from the big turrets, but run up to it and right-click it. This will start a short fight with a Eternal Empire Droid!<\/p>\n Don’t forget you can use the Companions & Contacts window and find the name of your new contact to travel straight to them. Speaking to your contact will complete the The Resistance quest and start the next one.<\/p>\n The next quest called Gearing Up asks you to turn in 5 Supply Crates to your contact. These locked crates come from any Heroic quest at level 61 or higher, and you received some during previous steps of this quest. You’ll have about 10 of various kinds saved up from this quest, and will need a total of 30 of any kind for all six planetary contacts – but your first one just requires any five.<\/p>\n If you don’t have enough crates to turn in, the easiest way to get some is to open the Activity Finder which is the icon of “three little people” near your minimap, then choose the Solo tab, then run heroics on a planet of your choice. List of Fast Heroics<\/a> (see table of contents)<\/p>\n You need to turn five of any kind in to progress the quest.<\/p>\n Once you turn them in, you’ll get opened versions of these locked crates with cosmetic gear, companion gifts and a small amount of credits inside when you right-click them from your inventory. This cosmetic gear is legacy-bound and fun to collect<\/a> over time from heroics.<\/p>\n Head back to the area you were in before by following the quest map markers.<\/p>\n This time,\u00a0 go near the giant Blaster Cannons – left-click one of them to select them, then left-click the orange explosion item beside your quest in your quest log (or right-click the item from the Mission tab of your Inventory). This will blaster the cannon into smithereens! You can then go inside the bunker door.<\/p>\n The quest objective is to talk to your contact – they are already inside the bunker, so go inside and up the elevator to find your contact. Then fight or stealth your way to the shield generator.<\/p>\n You’ll now have your new contact as a companion. The Command Unit droid has an interruptible flamethrower but is not very strong.<\/p>\n Destroy the shield generator by right-clicking the glowing computer and enjoy the cutscene as it explodes!<\/p>\n You’ll be automatically returned to your contact to complete the quest on this planet.<\/p>\n You’ll automatically be given the next quest to actually go to the Star Fortress called Destroying the Star Fortress<\/strong> in [Heroic 2+] mode.<\/p>\n You now have two options. You can go run that Heroic Star Fortress, OR you can go back to your Companions & Contacts window (N on your keyboard) and go run the other 5 planet The Resistance alerts. Either option is fine, but the Heroic Star Fortress can be difficult to do – you can also try that and if it’s too hard, go instead work on the alliance alerts later.<\/p>\n WARNING:<\/strong> <\/span>The next step of the quest, the [Heroic 2+] is VERY DIFFICULT if you plan to do it alone. With two players, it is more manageable, but if you plan to do it solo you will want to do a lot of preparation before ever even stepping foot into the Veteran Mode \/ Heroic version of the Star Fortress missions. – the bosses also get progressively harder, so even if you make it through the first few, the later ones are even harder. You may decide you want to come back to these later.<\/p>\n If you want to do the Heroic Star Fortresses, I recommend:<\/p>\n Getting all of these things is a fairly long road, but once you have all of them, you’ll wind up actually being really good at combat! Even with basic 324 gear, a rank 50 companion, and all of my defensives, the final boss was killing me faster than my companion could heal me.<\/p>\n Unlocking level 10 influence for all four alliance commanders will allow you to unlock EIGHT extra buffs to make you stronger during the Star Fortresses, and they really add up on the final boss.<\/p>\n Return to the planet Odessen and speak to either Lieutenant Marklo (Imperial-side) or Seargeant Ahkar (Republic-side) outside your Odessen base.<\/p>\n This time you can choose Start Veteran Mode<\/strong> which is the Heroic 2+ version of Star Fortresses. It is designed for either 2 or more players to run together, or, a very skilled, highly geared solo player with a high-influence companion. If you want a friend to help you, they can only join in Veteran Mode if they have also completed the destruction of the bunker Alliance Alert for the Star Fortres you are planning to run (so if you plan to do the Nar Shadda one, you friend needs to have done the Alliance Alert for Nar Shaddaa: The Resistance) too.<\/p>\n After your first bunker Star Fortress, you also unlock a weekly mission on a terminal very close to Lieutenant Marklo and\u00a0 Seargeant Ahkar. You can right-click it to pick up an extra quest.<\/p>\n This weekly quest [Weekly] The Star Fortress<\/strong> asks you to run any six Star Fortress missions within the week (check the Mission Reset timer at the top, reset is Tuesdays). Veteran Mode counts for double, so you’d only need to run three. The reward is 8 locked supply crates.<\/p>\n Then run down the hallway to the purple door to start your Heroic Star Fortress.<\/p>\n In Veteran Mode\/ Heroic Star Fortresses, you can only go to the Star Fortress for the planets you have completed the Alliance Alert for. The others will be greyed out.<\/p>\n Once you’ve picked a planet you have available,\u00a0 start the Star Fortress after you finish flying there by right-clicking the shuttle door behind you, just like in story mode.<\/p>\n Don’t forget to summon your companion – if it gives you an error message that you aren’t allowed to, it is mistaken – it is just confused because you had your Resistance Contact as a companion, so press N on your keyboard to open your Companions and Contact window and re-summon your favorite companion of your choice.<\/p>\n Now you’re ready to run a Heroic star fortress! Need help with any of the specific bosses, buffs, or bonus quests? Here’s all the details.<\/p>\n After defeating the Exarch, you can return to speak to your contact who is now in the Odessen base, and complete the Destroying the Star Fortress quest!<\/p>\n If you want to keep going, there are six total [Heroic] Star Fortress to unlock and run! Pick another planet from the Alliance Alerts section of your Companions & Contacts window (N on your keyboard) and go run the other 5 planet The Resistance alerts and then their Heroic Star Fortresses.<\/p>\n Inside the Star Fortresses in Veteran Mode, you’ll notice after you fall out of the vents this glowing blue Network Access Terminal.<\/p>\n You will likely get this red error message: Slicing this requires influence rank 3 with any alliance specialist.<\/p>\n You may also come across these smaller glowing blue cache boxes.<\/p>\n You will likely get this red error message: Slicing this requires influence rank 10 with a specific alliance specialist.<\/p>\n Both of these are special types of buffs that will make you stronger in Heroic Star Fortresses. To raise your alliance specialists’ influence rank, you’ll need to collect more of the locked supply crates by running heroics, then turning them in to your alliance specialists inside your Odessen Base. Getting to rank 3 is pretty easy.<\/p>\n Each of the alliance commanders likes a different type of supply crate:<\/p>\n Once you\u2019ve gained a locked supply crate, you can bring it to the correct alliance specialist and turn it in for your reward. Don\u2019t forget to use the \u2018Travel to Contact\u2019 button on your Companions and Contacts panel to get to them easily! You can also see their current influence level there.<\/p>\n These are the terminal buffs you can unlock at the beginning of the Heroic Star Fortress. Each one requires Rank 3 with its specialist.<\/p>\n These are the ability buffs you can unlock from hidden caches round the Heroic Star Fortress. Each one requires Rank 10 with its specialist.<\/p>\n Story mode Star Fortresses are pretty accessible, and most players should be able to complete them alone with a bit of practice. To start Story Mode, after you have unlocked it via the Battle for the Stars quest with Miot, go back and speak to either Lieutenant Marklo (Imperial-side) or Seargeant Ahkar (Republic-side) outside your Odessen base.<\/p>\n Choose [Start Solo Mode], and then run on in the hallway door!<\/p>\n The Skytrooper Praetorian is the first “boss fight” in all Star Fortresses.<\/p>\n On my weaker characters, I find this fight a bit difficult, and have to pay attention to not stand in the fire circles and watch my health bar.<\/p>\n My companion often dies here because of all the smaller Skytrooper enemies – you have a choice of just focusing the Praetorian boss and killing him as quickly as possible before you die, or the safer way is to go around and kill the little guys so they don’t kill your companion, which can then keep healing you.<\/p>\n EPHEMERIS is the second boss in the normal mode of Star Fortresses.<\/p>\n There will be many little enemies. If you don’t follow the mechanics, the little enemies will keep coming forever and you will never defeat the boss. The goal is to shut down EPHEMERIS, so you need t0 wait until he reboots and his computers become vulnerable.<\/p>\n Throughout the fight, as you kill smaller enemies, the aqua-blue holographic shields around the two computers, one on each side of the room, will disappear and the cubby where the computer is will turn red. This happens when you hear EPHEMERIS say, “Neural- feedback overload. Rebooting.”<\/p>\n Then go inside the opened cubby, and right-click the glowing blue computer. If you hear EPHEMERIS counting down 5-4-3-2-1 you weren’t fast enough getting to the computer – you can just do it again the next round. You will need to do both computers over time.<\/p>\n Don’t accidentally get stuck in the cubby when the countdown timer goes off or you’ll get stuck there. Type \/stuck to restart the fight if this happens.<\/p>\n After you destroy both computer, EPHEMERIS will show up and you can fight him directly – try to interrupt his yellow glowing ability called Neural Energy Surge by either using your Interrupt ability or by stunning him, otherwise he can heal himself.<\/p>\n If you are a very skilled player and kill things quickly, you may run into a nasty bug – if you kill the enemies that are coming out of the elevator too quickly, you will get stuck and not be able to progress the fight, you’ll just be standing there doing nothing. If this happens, type \/stuck to restart the fight, and then kill things a little more slowly (they goal is to wait until they are out of the elevator and have a spotlight from the ceiling aimed at them).<\/p>\n In Story \/ Normal mode, this is the end of the Star Fortress! In Heroic mode, you would continue forward to chase down the exarch, and this specific fight in this room is different.<\/p>\n To finish Battle for the Stars, return to Miot Dengd.<\/p>\n Heroic Star Fortresses, sometimes known as Veteran Mode or [Heroic 2+] are VERY DIFFICULT alone. With two players, it is more manageable, but if you plan to do it solo you will want to do a lot of preparation before ever even stepping foot into the Veteran Mode \/ Heroic version of the Star Fortress missions.<\/p>\n If you want to do the Heroic Star Fortresses, I recommend:<\/p>\n Unlocking level 10 influence for all four alliance commanders will allow you to unlock EIGHT extra buffs to make you stronger during the Star Fortresses, and they really add up on the final boss. See the Buffs<\/a> section above for more information.<\/p>\n Veteran Mode Star Fortresses also have bonus quests. These mostly only reward credits, but there is an achievement for completing 25 bonus objectives called Aid from Above, which will grant you 20 Cartel Coins<\/strong>\u00a0if you complete it.<\/p>\n As you fight in Veteran Mode, you’ll notice some enemies are stronger than Story Mode, but your first big challenge will be the Skytrooper Praetorian<\/strong> boss fight. In Veteran Mode, this boss hits like a truck! On my fresh level 80 character who was still wearing level 75 gear with an influence level 1 companion, I got demolished in the first few seconds of the fight. You have a couple different options for making this fight easier:<\/p>\n The first half of your Veteran Star Fortress will be very similar to a story mode – but there’s a bunch of brand new stuff in the second half.<\/p>\n Instead of fighting EPHEMERIS with the consoles, you’ll chat with a hologram of an Exarch and then fight two Knight of Zakuul enemies in white armor with two Skytroopers. This can be a surprisingly tough fight. Here’s some tips for this fight:<\/p>\n And the usual tips….<\/p>\n In the next area, you’ll meet a new type of enemy called Sunguard Skytroopers. They will drop a special item called a Photovoltaic Radiation Dampener<\/strong> which will appear as a blue icon on your temporary quickbar once you pick it up (we just called it the shield). Hold on to this for later!<\/p>\n If you come across any beams of light on the floor, you can use the shield ability by left-clicking it to get across without being pushed out the window.<\/p>\n In this area you will need to use the Grapple Hooks to get across. You need to be close enough to them then right-click the glowing blue grapple hook point. You will be close enough when your cursor turns yellow.<\/p>\n The next section is the fight against the Exarch and their Skytrooper Sunguard minions. This fight can be especially hard, especially when all the smaller Skytroopers come out. This fight also has very specific mechanics you need to follow or you will not be able to pass it – you don’t actually fight the Exarch directly yet!<\/p>\n Start by using your blue shield ability if you have one active. This will protect you from some attacks in this room – any time it lights up, feel free to lose it again! ((WHERE GET MORE??))<\/span><\/p>\n The boss starts of shielded with a yellow buff of 10 Photovoltaic Energy shields, and is immune to damage. The goal is to reduce his shields down to zero.<\/p>\n Over time, the exarch will blast a beam of yellow light towards a skinny droid in the corner called the Photoconduction Droid, turning its nameplate from green to red and making it attackable.<\/p>\n Once you kill it, you can right-click its body to loot a Capacitor.<\/p>\n This will give you a new ability called Siphon Energy, it looks like a yellow icon on your temporary ability bar.<\/p>\n When you’ve picked up the capacitors from the Photovoltaic Droid, you can then select the Exarch boss and use the ability on him, which will start bringing his number of shields down until the capacitor fills up.<\/p>\n You may need to repeat this pattern of killing the Photovoltaic Droids, looting their yellow capacitors, and draining the boss a couple times until the Exarch’s shields are down to zero. He will have a new casted ability called Absorbing Photovoltaic Energy<\/strong> with a golden yellow icon of a man raising his arms in the air.\u00a0 This happens when the Exarch’s shields are empty, and he needs to draw more energy from the Sun Reactor behind him.<\/p>\n While he’s distracted, you’ll want to run quickly to glowing blue computer in the back of the room and right-click it. You’ll have about 12 seconds to do it while he is casting, so keep your eyes on the back of the room for the glowing computer.<\/p>\n Once you right-click the glowing blue computer, it will Overload the Sun Reactor, zapping the Exarch, and causing him to flee to the next area of the Star Fortress.<\/p>\n If you don’t get to the computer on time, you’ll need to repeat the process of whittling down the Exarch’s shields again!<\/p>\n While that’s a lot of mechanics to deal with, the really hard part of this fight is doing all these while also managing the Skytrooper Sunguard Captains, and the extra Skytroopers that keep appearing over time.<\/p>\n When your Photoconduction Droid dies, you don’t need to loot it right away or even use the yellow capacitor right away.<\/p>\n You can focus on clearing out the room first, but you may want to focus on killing the Photoconduction Droid first as it has some strong attacks. You can also stun all enemies in this room. Do not waste any time attacking the Exarch, as he is immune to damage except for using the special ability on him to drain his shield.<\/p>\n The part that was killing me the most was when the pack of Skytroopers show up out of nowhere, and all started attacking me at once. I really had to focus on using tactics for my class that would help me survive that point in time and quickly kill that pack of Skytroopers.<\/p>\n And the usual tips….<\/p>\n This photovoltaic room happens again later in the Star Fortress, rinse and repeat!<\/p>\n After you’ve finished with the Photovoltatic rooms, you will reach a point where you can’t grapple forwards – instead grapple up to the final boss.<\/p>\n The Exarch final boss in Veteran Mode \/ Heroic 2+ is very, very hard. The Exarchs hit like a truck, and even with basic 324 gear, a rank 50 companion, and all of my defensives, the final boss was killing me faster than my companion could heal me.<\/p>\n If you can’t get a friend to come help you, you’ll really need to do all of these:<\/p>\n TIP: Nar Shaddaa Exarch Lesin Tyn \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0There is one Exarch that\u2019s harder than the others, and that\u2019s Nar Shaddaa\u2019s. This Exarch heals itself with a casted ability called\u00a0Esne\u2019s Avarice.<\/strong> If your DPS is too low, you\u2019re going to struggle with doing enough DPS to cancel out him healing himself. Interrupting the cast sometimes works, while other times he\u2019ll simply restart it, so you can start by interrupting as many as you can. The Exarch can not be stunned.<\/p>\n If you die in a Star Fortress, instead of respawning at a normal medcenter, you will be in jail. To escape jail, you will need to walk very close to the purple bars, select the guard as they walk by, distract them with your first temporary ability when they are very close to you, then kill them when they get close enough.<\/p>\n The guard will drop a glowing blue datapad you can right-click to free yourself form the purple jail cell.<\/p>\n Once you are out of the jail cell, look for the blue Suppression Collar Removal Forceps on the counter and right-click it.<\/p>\n Next you need to find a way to open the door. This varies a bit per class – look for something in the room glowing bright blue to right-click.<\/p>\n Next, kill the warden, and right-click the glowing blue Laser Fence Controls computer in front of where he was standing.<\/p>\n Lastly you can take the elevator to freedom! Make sure to re-summon your companion if they’ve gone missing.<\/p>\n You only have to escape jail once, if you die again your cell will still be open when you respawn there.<\/p>\n Star Fortresses are great for stealthers – you can skip past most enemies in stealth!<\/p>\n To open most doors, you need to run up to them to trigger them… but they won’t open if you are in stealth. However, if you pull a pet out and keep them with you during the Star Fortress, they can open the doors for you by being near them!<\/p>\n Red doors with a blue button are locked doors that need to be clicked from one side to be opened.<\/p>\n Other doors, like the elevator doors, won’t open unless you right-click them, which takes you out of stealth. You can often put nearby enemies to sleep (humans only, not skytroopers) and then sneak behind them to open the doors.<\/p>\n You may need to fight one or two enemies that spawn ready to attack, the ones that run towards you. Sometimes you can run past them quickly and skip them if they aren’t ready until you are past them.<\/p>\n If you die and get jailed, you can stealth to behind the computer terminal and right-click it right in front of the guard.<\/p>\n lots!<\/p>\n from prateorian<\/p>\n There are four legacy-bound armor sets<\/strong> you can collect through the Star Fortress encounters in Heroic mode. The trick is that you can only earn one piece per set, per character, per planet, so if you want to earn them all, you’d need to run Star Fortresses in four different characters, each one picking a different set type. If you missed a piece along the way, you could re-run Star Fortresses on a different character to earn it, since the pieces are legacy-bound which means any of your characters can use them once you’ve earned them. There are other sets similar to these, but the one-time quests for Heroic Star Fortresses are the only way to get the orange and gold-colored legacy-bound versions! These sets do have a requirement of level 10 and up to wear.<\/p>\n The headpiece is from Nar Shaddaa, the chest from Alderaan, the hands from Hoth, the belt from Voss, the legs from Tatooine, the boots are from Belsavis.<\/span><\/p>\n The seventh piece, the bracers, used to be<\/em> a random drop from the paladins in Heroic mode, but no longer are available to be earned in any way.
