Gearing up at Level 80 in Star Wars: The Old Republic allows you to hit harder and stay alive longer, by earning and wearing gear that increases your character’s stats.<\/p>\n

To gear up at Level 80, you earn five different types of currency, which you can then exchange for gear. All players, whether they’re new to max-level and only play solo, or are running the hardest content in the game, can earn the best gear available as of Update 7.8.1<\/strong> – it just takes longer depending on what type of activities you like to play. In this guide we\u2019ll be going over how to get the different types of currencies, how to exchange them, the different gear tiers that exist, and some general tips about how the system works.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the Best Gear?<\/span><\/h2>\n

When the most recent expansion was originally released, the best gear in the game was locked behind the hardest types of content in the game. This is no longer true, and now even players who play very casually can earn the best gear in the game over time.<\/p>\n

The gear you can get is split up in two different ways \u2013 by item-rating, and by color quality \u2013 if you have two items that are the same item-rating number, but one is green and one is blue, the blue item will have a better distribution of its stats, which makes it the better item to equip. For example, if you have a green piece of damage gear and a purple piece of damage gear with the same item-rating \u2013 the green item will put more of its stats into endurance, but since you are a damage player you want to hit harder, not have more health.<\/p>\n

The gearing system starts at around item-rating 324 green, and has a max of item-rating 344 Purple.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

How to Get the Best Gear<\/h2>\n

How to actually get gear is kind of complicated, but the reason it is so complicated is because the game offers you many different ways to gear up – you can really choose your own path and what activities you like to do. Some gear drops directly from enemies, some gear comes from boxes at the end of Flashpoints or Operations, some gear is purchased with currencies you earn from many activities, and some gear is earned by paying currencies to upgrade gear you already own. You can combine all of these different ways and do not need to follow a single gearing path.<\/p>\n
