Combat Styles changed these restrictions by separating your story from the way you fight in-game. For example, you can now play a Jedi Knight as a Shadow with a double-bladed lightsaber, or even as a Sorcerer, and use Force Lightning, all while playing the Jedi Knight origin story. Force users are restricted to Force-using Combat Styles, and Tech users are restricted to tech-using Combat Styles.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-22616\" src=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/class-chart-tech-pretty-1920-cut.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"920\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/class-chart-tech-pretty-1920-cut.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/class-chart-tech-pretty-1920-cut-300x144.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/class-chart-tech-pretty-1920-cut-728x349.jpg 728w, https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/class-chart-tech-pretty-1920-cut-768x368.jpg 768w, https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/class-chart-tech-pretty-1920-cut-1536x736.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s also an additional restriction when it comes to dark-side and light-side Combat Styles for\u00a0 Jedi and Sith Origin Stories &#8211; when creating a character, you won&#8217;t be able to pick up dark-side combat style as a Jedi unless you have also unlocked the Dark V unlock through your legacy, and you&#8217;ll need the Light V unlock if you want to choose a light-side combat style for your Sith character. Tech users are able to choose from all eight tech Combat Styles right away &#8211; for example, you can easily play as a Trooper Sniper from level 1.<\/p>\n<p>You will have all the combat abilities of your chosen Combat Style &#8211; for example, if you choose to play the Sith Inquisitor Origin Story but choose the Juggernaut Combat Style, you won&#8217;t actually have any Force Lightning when you go into combat, even if you use it in cutscenes in the story, because you&#8217;ll be fighting like a Juggernaut.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-22615\" src=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/class-chart-force-pretty-1920-cut.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"915\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/class-chart-force-pretty-1920-cut.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/class-chart-force-pretty-1920-cut-300x143.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/class-chart-force-pretty-1920-cut-728x347.jpg 728w, https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/class-chart-force-pretty-1920-cut-768x366.jpg 768w, https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/class-chart-force-pretty-1920-cut-1536x732.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"Combat_Styles\">Creating a Character<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>When you create a character, you&#8217;ll first choose your Faction, then your Origin Story, and then your Combat Style.<\/p>\n<p>When creating a character like a Jedi Knight, a new character would have the ability to choose between four Combat Styles: <strong>Guardian, Sentinel, Sage<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Shadow,\u00a0<\/strong>who all fight with Lightsabers and the light-side of the Force, but who each have very different ways of approaching combat.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6947\" src=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/jedi-knight-combat-proficiencies.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/jedi-knight-combat-proficiencies.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/jedi-knight-combat-proficiencies-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/jedi-knight-combat-proficiencies-728x410.jpg 728w, https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/jedi-knight-combat-proficiencies-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Your Combat Style choice is a permanent choice, so choose wisely.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20147\" src=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/icon-guardian.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"96\" \/>\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20148\" src=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/icon-sentinel.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"96\" \/>\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20146\" src=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/icon-sage.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"96\" \/>\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20149\" src=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/icon-shadow.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"96\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you have earned the <strong>Dark V achievement<\/strong> on any of your characters on your server, you will also be able to choose from the dark-sided Combat Styles as well, and the <strong>Juggernaut, Marauder, Sorcerer<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>Assassin<\/strong> will be added to the list you can choose from when creating a level 1 Jedi Knight character.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20153\" src=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/icon-juggernaut.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"96\" \/>\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20150\" src=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/icon-marauder.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"96\" \/>\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20152\" src=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/icon-sorcerer.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"96\" \/>\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20151\" src=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/icon-assassin.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"96\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re a newer player, and didn&#8217;t have Dark V unlocked and didn&#8217;t have the option to choose a dark-side Combat Style when you created a character&#8230; while you are playing the story, if you make dark-sided decisions and your character has turned towards the dark side by moving their character Alignment bar into the Dark, you will have the option to flip your chosen Combat Style to its dark-sided counterpart, the <strong>Juggernaut, Marauder, Sorcerer<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>Assassin,<\/strong>\u00a0while remaining a Jedi Knight. This choice to flip happens after you reach Chapter 3 of your Jedi Knight origin story.<\/p>\n<p>If you are an\u00a0<strong>experienced player<\/strong>\u00a0and have already earned the\u00a0<strong>Dark V achievement<\/strong> on any of your characters on your server, you won&#8217;t get this option to flip, since you had the option to choose a dark-side combat style when you were creating your character.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6955\" src=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/jedi-knight-protect.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/jedi-knight-protect.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/jedi-knight-protect-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/jedi-knight-protect-728x410.jpg 728w, https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/jedi-knight-protect-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>(And here&#8217;s an important note for players who had characters that existed before the expansion. If you already have a Jedi Knight created but you haven\u2019t logged into them since the Legacy of the Sith expansion came out, the first time you log into your Jedi Knight, if their alignment is even 1 Dark Side point away from 0, you\u2019ll be given the option to flip your current combat style. This is kind of like a one-time gift from the developers, to give us the option to flip an existing character since the option didn&#8217;t exist until the expansion launched.)<\/p>\n<p>All this special info was just for Force Users &#8211; Tech Users, like the Scoundrel, are a lot easier, because they do not have any type of alignment restrictions when it comes to dark or light. Tech user characters will be able to pick up a second combat style from any of the eight tech user options.<\/p>\n<h2>Second Combat Style<\/h2>\n<p>In addition to all that, as a newer player, when you complete <strong>Chapter 3<\/strong> of your Origin Story, <strong>subscribers<\/strong>\u00a0will be able to pick up a\u00a0<strong>second Combat Style.<\/strong>\u00a0This second Combat Style choice is permanent, but you will be able to swap between your first and second choice while playing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6951\" src=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/jedi-knight-companions.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/jedi-knight-companions.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/jedi-knight-companions-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/jedi-knight-companions-728x410.jpg 728w, https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/jedi-knight-companions-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you are an\u00a0<strong>experienced player<\/strong> and have already completed Chapter 3 of your Origin Story for any characters on your server, subscribers will be able to choose your second Combat Style <strong>immediately after your create your character at level 1<\/strong>, and you won\u2019t have to wait to complete your Origin Story to pick up your second style.<\/p>\n<p>(So that means, if you have existing characters who have finished their class story, you&#8217;ll be able to just log in and pick your second combat style for them right away if you are a subscriber.)<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"gP3TcDgcHZ\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/swtor-second-combat-style-guide\/\">SWTOR Second Combat Style Guide<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;SWTOR Second Combat Style Guide&#8221; &#8212; Swtorista\" src=\"https:\/\/swtorista.com\/articles\/swtor-second-combat-style-guide\/embed\/#?secret=FyTweer6nF#?secret=gP3TcDgcHZ\" data-secret=\"gP3TcDgcHZ\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>Disciplines<\/h2>\n<p>Once you have chosen your Jedi Knight\u2019s Combat Style and finished creating your character, you can then choose your\u00a0<strong>Discipline<\/strong>. Your Discipline is your specialized way of fighting, and each Combat Style has three options to choose from. Your Discipline is not a permanent choice, and you can easily switch between the three discipline options tied to your Combat Style. There is no &#8220;best&#8221; Combat Style, instead you want to choose one that seems like it will be the most fun for you to play.
