If you haven’t paid any money to play the game, you are going to encounter a lot of restrictions as you play the “free demo” of the game. One of these restrictions is that you will not be able to progress past level 50, and you will not be able to start the expanded storylines that exist in the game’s expansions.

To unlock the ability to get to level 50, you will need to subscribe to the game. Subscribing costs about $15 a month, but you only need to subscribe for one month to fully unlock the ability to keep levelling and to unlock all current and past expansions, even if they unsubscribe later.

The current max-level is level 70, and players who subscribe unlock these additional expansions:

Rise of the Hutt Cartel (originally level 50-55)

Shadow of Revan (originally level 55-60)

Knights of the Fallen Empire (originally level 60-65)

Knights of the Eternal Throne (originally level 65-70)

Due to the fast rate of experience gain in the game, players who are level 50 and then subscribe will likely reach level 70 long before they reach the latest expansion.

Preferred Level 50

To level up past level 50 in SWTOR, preferred players will need to subscribe to the game for at least one month.

Preferred players are players who have invested some money into the game, either by subcribing in the past or by buying cartel coins. This is a slightly upgraded type of account, and preferred players experience less restrictions than free-to-play players.

One restriction for preferred players is that they will only have unlocked certain expansions, depending on when the last time they subscribed was. Players who have subscribed anytime within the last year will have all four expansions unlocked, but players who have not subscribed until before that point will not have access to all the expansions.

If you are stuck at level 50, level 55, level 60 or level 65, the only way to progress is to subscribe, which will unlock all the past expansions and the most recent expansion, allowing you to level up all the way to level 70.

Subscribed Level 50

Players who are currently subscribed will have the ability to level to level 70 unlocked. Woohoo! To reach level 70, participate in any activity that grants experience. This can include but is not limited to: story quests, heroics, flashpoints, warzones and galactic starfighter!

There are three types of accounts in Star Wars: The Old Republic.
