How to Start Training Artifice

To pick up any crafting skill, head to the fleet. Their are crafting trainers gathered in the rooms on the outer edges. Find the Artifice trainer and speak to them. If you already have a profession or three gathering skills, drop one. Once you have chosen a crafting profession, pick up the two gathering crafting skills that are paired with it to easily acquire materials for that profession.
